just bought a new striped quilt cover and pillowcase set in light browns/tans with white/black/teal (? aqua blue?) highlights. love it, although it's the third set I've used in that palette so it's not new. like the sound of chroma blue, might go pretty good with gold/bronze too (the int.d. set bangin' on about metallics a bit lately), probably not as good as darker blues, but perhaps more original. peachy, blue and creamy white sounds like something nice to slide into.

I should have said peachy, blush and creamy white with moss accent, perhaps some mint?

I'm a bit boring, white (or ivory) every time, but to be fair I use a lot of vintage real linen, hand made lace and real silk so I am dressing with texture. Ringing the changes with a throw and some nice cushions (currently Aqua but some times rich dark red)

I'm a girl and I love blue - it's my favourite colour, in all shades, including indigo. How on earth is it a masculine colour? I thought only pale pastel baby blue - ridiculously used to colour code babies - was a masculine colour.

Unfortunately susan_ 66 there is colour is psychologically and historically related either way, and dark blues re more often not considered masculine when building an interior. I worked in a design centre where much time was spent picking apart colour association, and used it to help market the products in imagery. There are feminine blues ofcourse, but my comment specifically mentioned indigo and low chroma colours, which are toned. With black and greys, and I used the phrase 'added masculinity' referring to the boldness and strength of colour they bring to soft and delicate colours of blush and peach. Just from that you can see how colour is associated, bold and strength= male, and soft and delicate = female.

Baby blue I wouldn't have thought was masculine, but is a gender specific typically only when there are two options. Pink or blue!

Well, mldesign0401, you've certainly given me a way to decide whether or not I want to hire a particular designer. I'd be politely showing them the door as soon they started on about some colours being masculine and others feminine.

My father was a manual labourer, working in places where strength and toughness were literally needed. When choosing curtains for his new house, he requested florals.

Perhaps that was a nice contrast to his harsh days then!

On the other note, many sucessful interiors evoke such joy for their occupiers by association, regardless of gender, the basis for colour inclusion is to feel something, people who are not open to utilizing colour by association wouldn't ever use a designer regardless! Fortunately for me, there are plenty who do.

Also, intake offense by your 'polite' remark about a designer who 'started on', as if it were an unfelt rambling. I am as entitled to describe my ideal linen above as you are for this comment.
