How private are sheer curtains at night?
Comments (11)Hi Louise :) Apart from the kitchen location, we've actually kept fairly close to the original idea! The only change is that the back will now be big glass stacker doors (as mentioned above) the same as at the front. We can open the whole room up to the outside, front and back. The whole first floor will all be pretty much open plan so we've decided not to worry where the door to the laundry & bathroom is. The dining table will be up against a wide window with a built-in bench seat, to save room and allow a wider pathway to the kitchen. The kitchen looks straight into the dining area, it's all open. So when I'm standing in my new kitchen I'll be able to see out to the back garden, all the way through the house, and see the spa area too. I can't wait :)...See MoreActivity rooms - valued or a waste of space? Opinions please !
Comments (12)There is no one size fits all for family houses, but here is what I have observed. The first things you need are a decent sized family bathroom, and a decent sized laundry. Never underestimate the laundry size! Small children always want to be near you, so a playroom will just be a toy storage room. By the time they get to primary school and start having homework they need to be near you to do it. They also still enjoy being where you are. By the time they start to be more independent their bedrooms will be their sanctuary, so a larger size with plenty of storage will be more useful. Two living areas is ideal, but not essential. The main one will be where the family gathers to do whatever takes their fancy, where you will find all the toys and activities. Set up some desks for activities/homework etc. The other would be useful for a grown up sanctuary (the good room!!!) - this is the one that is not essential. So looking at your plan in my opinion, I would ditch the activity area and pay more attention to a bigger bathroom and laundry, and bigger bedrooms if that is an option....See MoreNeed help furnishing rooms
Comments (18)Hi Ann, yes it is the family room that we are considering as a dining space. Previously the kitchen had a peninsula and there were no bifolds so the room was split and we had a small kitchen and a small dining area. When we installed the new kitchen and bifold doors the intention was a kitchen / dinner but now I’m thinking I’d like a bench on the wall between the kitchen and family rooms with bar stools to sit at for breakfast and homework. I love your idea of ghost chairs - I hadn’t considered this. A bit like this:...See Morekitchen and dining layout help!
Comments (45)You would have to ensure that there's suitable insulation in the Nib and western walls in the extension the cavity brick in the original part of the building should be OK remember vergola its an opening pergola you would be advised to get a quote but this would certainly work and look better it doesn't have to cover the whole deck...See Morefianou
