Hi Nick, I think you should retain the existing door and paint it in the colour that is used for the existing highlight colour, this will tie in nicely with the existing windows and the screen door. I think the door you have selected is a very nice door, but it won't be seen behind the screen anyway. You could also swap your pots on the verandah over to a gloss black and put in a plant with a nice bright flower (red or white bloom) for a splash of colour. Just a few thoughts. I like the overall concept of the kitchen but it is rather disjointed. I agree with clearing everything off the surfaces and trying to keep them free miss a feature bowl for the island. You could add an eating area as this would make it more purposeful but I would not do it if it compromised the size and functionality of your living area. The piece of timber joining the two walls at the entrance seems superfluous and I if was removed it would instantly look more contemporary. You could extend those walls up to the height of the cabinets and repaint in a lighter colour. This could reduce your light but this can be dealt with in other ways. I love wood cabinets but the top ones up look heavy- perhaps they could be painted a light colour to reflect the light coming in from the entrance but I would revisit your lighting in general. There is a lot of timber with the floor, cabinets and ceiling and this makes the space quite dark? if you did extend your walls you might find the kitchen darker so paint cabinets. I like the idea of wallpaper but only if you have an even shaped wall and if the pattern works with your living scheme. Whatever you do with your walls will need to correspond with the adjacent entrance walls. You didn't mention your budget but I would start at the simple end and if it doesn't give you the result you want move to the more complex solutions. All the best

This may sound blunt , but it is so , so easy -- hide everything in your picture ! Look at the neighbours , a nice door and surrounds , in pleasant colours , with nice timber and bricks . Yours is square and open , with vertical wallboards ( maybe even synthetic or cement based ? ) , battening , a billy basic door and light , a window that is totally different again and even has a different coloured surround to the door ! So yes , change the door , do that whole wall or all 3 in a different finish . Do something about the cracked concrete path -- how about tile with terracota tiles , or white ones with a light blue pattern , right up to the door ? And the pipes -- do a canopy , or a facade in natural timber , or a sloping roof in the same material as your main roof -- hide them . Easier than moving them , and the associated risks implied there . I'm here in New Zealand , and I reckon you could do something including labour , and a door and side panels similar to your neighbours , for around $5000 , or $10,000 would be a real step up above your neighbours look haha . I assume your costs would be in that general range .
