Switch the front window and your side entrance door, this way your door is visible from the street. Then turn the window in the pantry into a door to gain access more directly to your kitchen, a closet and maybe a bench for gathering items on the way in or out. It looks like you have to go up a small flight of stairs to get to the door, otherwise I'd say put the additional entrance on the cellar wall on the left of your plan. Depending on space you may need to slide this new mud room entrance to the left and you might have room for a longer closet along the pantry wall and a bench opposite the closet along the outside wall. You would lose the cellar but I am not sure if that is another storage area or access to a basement. Just some ideas. Really like the rest of the layout. Hope my little picture helps to explain my ideas.

I'd probably echo a lot of the other comments. The bathroom seems quite large and could be smaller or even split into two smaller bathrooms (ensuite and main bathroom). I'd also consider just including the laundry in the main bathroom. I don't see the need for a separate laundry sink provided you have a decent sized bathroom sink (although your needs may vary) and it would potentially be a much more efficient use of the space. The kitchen seems particularly big to me. I don't really see in the value in having such a large return with bar stools, etc. Surely in such a space, it would be easy enough to move to the dining table to eat, socialise, etc. I think it would be better to place the kitchen along the length of the wall (scrapping the "corner" bifolds, but maybe utilising a window splashback to retain natural light) to really open up the living area. I don't think a bench is necessary. If you position the dining table appropriately, it could double as workspace if necessary, but a long, linear kitchen should provide you with plenty of workspace (and, at one end, potentially room for a built-in study nook which would probably be valuable for a growing family). Ultimately, I'd do a lot of research. I like the blue touches already in the room, which reflect the brickwork. Agree with lots of creams/ neutrals, just adding some blue in cushions, artwork. Maybe a bluish/cream rug, with a subtle pattern, not a solid color. Also I think the lights are a little lost. The high ceilings could take some quite large shades, maybe drums. And I agree that the central column could be painted to become the focal point as stated. Either white or quite a dark grey/ blue, ( it might darken up things too much, but it's only paint, can be changed). It might be sinful but I think I would replace it with plaster, then paint it. Finally maybe a dash of 60s burnt orange or mustard if you want to want to keep the retro theme.

Hi Mary, there are various window exhaust fans on the market. You would need a glazier to cut hole in glass, and a electrician to install fan. Did the workman say why this was illegal, or was that another way of saying it is too hard for him to do? There could be regulations for your apartment. Have you a corporate body rep, that you can confirm with?
