Definitely add a rug with some pattern and texture to break up the conglomerate of dark colours both with the tiled floor and chocolate modular lounge. The rug you choose will then dictate what scatter cushions to select for your lounge. You may want to consider asking your landlord if a art hanging track can be installed this way you could hang a lovely print or artwork behind sofa. With an art track it is usually powder coated white and installed just below cornice and looks like part of the cornice. You are then given by the installer acrylic hanging wires that slot into this track making it versatile to hang either a series of smaller prints or one large one and you can change as often as you like without any damage to the walls. Your artwork can also be the basis for selecting a rug and scatters. You will be amazed how by adding the rug, scatters and artwork will give instant warmth and personality to your room. You may also want to add a coffee table too. If it is a particularly beautifully patterned rug that is a real feature think of a glass coffee table so the rug can be seen. Hi AnAhitA Nazari, I totally agree. I actually don't intend to keep the couch on that wall, it just happens to be there due to the renos we are doing at the moment. I thought one of the red chairs under that print on an angle would be better and maybe a little table with a lamp on it? I can't change the colour of the walls as we have just finished painting it so I'm stuck with it. The room is part of a big room which has a partition 5ft wall separating it from the dining room. I'm thinking of putting the sofa on that wall and the other chair on its right hand side. As for the furniture in that room I do realise it's not a great choice but they have lots of memories to me so once again I'm stuck with them lol

sterlet14, I still don't know what I could call "my style" I have joked and said I am an eclectic minimalist and I say eclectic, not in the sense of heaps of styles and colours all mixed together, which is how I see eclectic but more so, that all the furniture that I have bought for my new home when the construction is complete, is second hand, they don't all match but have a common ground of being solid timber and or leather. As for saying I'm a minimalist, I currently live in a 7 sq home where everything is packed on top of everything, absolutely no sign of minimalism here but can't wait till everything has it's own place in the house to live and preferably in a cupboard or draw, with absolutely nothing on display anywhere, save a vase on the dining table and a few pot plants!! As for your statement about choosing classic but trying to follow contemporary, perhaps you already know what way you seem to be going. Classic and contemprary is an odd one to put together but the photo's supplied show it's not only doable but done allot AND looks great!!! I guess the only thing you have to decide is, if you are mostly classic with a touch of contemporary or the opposite or yet again happy to share the style equally. I think contemporary with a hint of classic is very nice and not at all over done but I don't think you could do it as well in reverse. Cheers, Barbara

I think a clear (Lucite?) console table would work well, with perhaps a plant in nice timber plant stand and possibly a decorative basket underneath. A smallish bowl on table could serve as a holder for keys, sunglasses, etc., unless you already have a drop-off point in entryway. I do like idea of other for potted plant in hall upstairs, but perhaps not in path of stairs, esp with those two doors located there. Here are photos to give idea.
