your front door is a very traditional Colonial 6 panel door. i would stick with that inside, or you could go with a full panel door (single raised panel) for a less formal look. you can get matching doors with mirrors (bedroom), chalkboard (pantry) or frosted glass where the panel is. consider using solid doors to deaden sounds instead of lightweight hollowcore doors. http://www.simpsondoor.com/products/product_lines/chalkboard.asp

we have a front door inside a courtyard surrounded by high brick walls with a big corten steel gate/door with electric locks, camera and intercom...there's also a verandah from the gate to the front door and we're very happy with the arrangement. Although some people prefer a more open feeling we like the extra privacy, security and reduced street noise that would also be important for you and, subject to available space, a partition wall inside your gate would also be worth considering to ensure no direct line of sight from the gate to your windows or doors...our courtyard makes a great private outdoor sitting area using the paved space under the verandah and the rest is lawned with narrow planting alcoves along the brick walls...NB courtyard walls could be build out of painted Sound Wall and if your electricity or gas meters are inside the courtyard double check access regulations in your area (we installed very expensive special locks accessible to the electricity suppliers only to discover that they now have remote readers!!)

Unfortunately the door had to swing from that side due to light switches having to be a certain distance from water (shower). Plus I’d rather have the first view be of vanity and bath, rather than shower and toilet... Solution was to go for a hidden control arm (Glynn Johnson 410 series concealed overhead door stop) at the top of the door that bounces door back away from shower screen. Can’t see it when the door is shut. Plus didn’t interfere with water proofing/tiling.
