I say go for it as your door is the window to your home. My advice would be to consider the colour of the flecks in your brick to make sure your chosen colour works with it and not to forget about the colour of your roof and window frames. For example I would have loved a red door but it would have looked ghastly with the green roof on my 25 year-old house. Instead I did black with dark grey window frames (which truly just look black) which works to pick up the black in the brick. I added my big pot plants with green foliage and still got a touch of red in the form of an old chair I picked up from an op shop years ago. The entrance is welcoming, attractive and reflects what is waiting inside. Have fun and if your chosen colour isn't quite right do what I did and find a way of incorporating it into the scheme somehow.

(echoing others here) No, no, no NO! ............The issue isn't the brickwork nor the roof tiles.....rather it's the currently multicoloured trim of say your guttering, garage and windows etc... I'd also argue that the idea of the "award winning" example posted above, will most likely date in time.......although I like the landscaping aspect of that one - but otherwise it's too heavy tonally for my eye and the rear extension is a harsh juxtaposition formally........anyway,I digress.... On your home here I reckon you best to work within the inherent style rather than try and force it into something that it is not. Other things, some not that expensive, will go a long way here, for example, bring the trim colours into consistency, consider relocating the downpipe on the far left brick column, and focus on a proper front landscaping design (including removing the concrete aspect) and de-cluttering the verandah will also make a world of difference. Looks like you have a beautiful established (jacaranda) tree in your front yard - perhaps make that that the "hero" of your frontage / streetscape That's what I did on this project, whilst completely different style the point is it was more about the garden - the house and structure becomes supporting and complimentary to the external landscaped spaces Good luck! Thanks so much to you both for your advice and questions. Main reason for the change is insulation. We're also renovating the back of the house to open it out to the garden and change the cladding on an existing extension so getting new sliding doors. Planning to repaint gutters, fascias. Re our goal, we are just trying to make it all blend, so trying not to make anything look too modern for the traditional brick veneer house. Great to get your thoughts pottsy99. Do you think monument would look too modern? We know from looking at other houses that white, cream don't look great. Seems we're down to monument, dune or paperback. It might be nice if you removed the awning on the left near the bottom of the stairs and replaced it with a pergola painted in black. I was going to mention the security screens but you have that covered already. I agree with also doing something with the driveway. We had an ugly black cobblestone driveway and replaced it with a light coloured exposed aggregate with a few black specks and it totally changed our house
