To Ella Kate Thrupp....."a woven piece"...as in a wall rug or a tapestry suggested by yours truly and Tribbletrouble441452k7 Trek? Or maybe you have a more novel idea in mind? Have you come across any "woven" art in your professional travels? I have a friend who actually weaves tapestries on a loom as they did centuries ago thread by thread. They are exquisite and each a unique artwork. She works professionally on commission Very time consuming, meticulous and expensive and she also does it simply for relaxation and sells them. Wonder would there be anything along this line available commercially today? Such a "woven piece" would make an enormous impact in any room, so beautiful and unique in a bedroom especially if a design woven to order...but Yikes $$$$$. Afterthought...a painted MURAL designed to order might be a touch of luxury if you engaged somebody to do it and they presented you with a series of pictures for you to choose from.....that would not fall down! I did one for a friend's guest donga in Charleville QLD...she wanted a fantasy and had a lot of input herself, it was a collaborative effort and she got exactly what she wanted. Can't go wrong with a mural...can always paint over it when you want something different.

So the primary focus of a splashback really should be function for sure – it needs to be a smooth surface that can be wiped clean quickly, effectively and bw waterproof. But that’s not to say the splashback shouldn’t look terrific in the process, either. These days they are anything from tiles, glass, acrylic, pressed metal.. even art! :) I'm gauging from the responses so far mirrors 'do' tend to go 'hand in hand' with hand washing. On this particular project it wasn't a necessity and offered an opportunity to try something away from conventional design so to speak and allow for a corner art splashback to take pride of place in an unexpected place. I'm enjoying the comments and the thoughts Houzzers are sharing on this poll. Civic Steel I've been informed more selfies have been taken in that small bathroom than any other place in the home recently which was amusing to find out :) and Jmm1837 I've completed many feature walls and art installations, I may possibly have to consider working 'around' a mirror on future backsplash projects. I never considered a mirrored cabinet at first - I didn't think they looked as sophisticated! But the drawers just don't provide enough storage and I think I will go with that - it will satisfy my desire for a large mirror too! I love the "round the corner" idea for getting a good view of my hair dos! Thanks again everyone :-)

Not a terrible idea at all. I placed two mirrors across each other in our small bathroom. The mirrors are not of the same width but are the same design and at the same height to maintain simplicity. One narrow mirror above the basin, same width as the basin and tall enough so that our tallest family member at 2m can see their face. The WC also sits next to the basin but I did not want to extend the mirror from the basin. The wall space above the WC allowed for decorative items, eg artwork; narrow display shelf to add interest and texture. Directly opposite the basin and WC is a wide cabinet, and a large mirror to cover that width of cabinet and at the same height as the basin mirror. This mirror also reflects the artwork above the WC. It reflects so much more light and creates a wonderful feeling of space.
