Ideas before I stuff up my room and waste money?
Comments (19)Purple is such a dominant colour. I love the idea that your designing your own room. Let's start with your rug, you bought it because you love it! Next, I think it's a good choice with white bed. They should be the things you need to pop in the room. If you now paint purple walls, they will loose there pop. I have added a photo of a chevron pattern because I think you now need to tone the purple down and add colour to make an impact. Eg cushions, art lamps. I know you said you don't like greys but greys will help your favourite things stand out. I would use a colour called Dulux Grand Piano. ( yes...it's a grey) but hey, it'll work to make your fav colours pop. Your purple rug, the Chevron bedspread, you can the add purple lime green and hot pink accessories ( whatever you love) Great artwork with a white frame. By toning down the wall colour and bedspread you can really highlight all the things you love. Good luck, have fun and keep attacking....See MoreHelp: 1. Wooden floors-to sand&polyurethane OR to sand&paint white
Comments (15)Polyurethane timber floor finishes are the most durable and economical floor coating available for floor sanding and polishing projects. Especially if you are considering the resale of your home in the future. Liming or white washing your floor certainly is in fashion at the moment but is far more expensive to do. If you are still interested in liming your timber floors take a look our blog for some more info . http://budgetfloorsanding.com.au/?s=liming+timber+floors http://budgetfloorsanding.com.au/timber-floor-finishes/timber-floor-staining/...See MoreDo skirting boards and door architraves need to match?
Comments (5)I would try to keep with the 60s style, tl keep a coherent look. I think your number 2 picture looks good, however, I think that the groove would be a good spot for dust to collect....See MoreWhat do I need to consider for built-in robes around a fireplace?
Comments (38)You could consider custom joinery that actually looks freestanding - purposefully creating a gap from the edge of the fireplace surround to the wardrobe & on the wall side also. This would also mean that it really does not matter if the front of the cupboards do not align with the front of the fireplace. Adding a nicely detailed leg, and a feature handle (you can get some really unique Australian made ones these days) to give some visual interest to the otherwise minimal finishes. Keep it simple & classic so it ages with your child's taste and preferences. As an example, The Design Files recent article has an image of a cupboard in a lounge area, that could be adapted to two double door units on either side of the fireplace https://thedesignfiles.net/2019/10/interiors-house-p-cjh-studio/. Seems perfect for a child of any age, or even if you want to convert the room to a more 'grown up purpose' once they leave home ;-)...See Moresally wastie
