Open Plan LDK Sliding Door: Kitchen or Dining area?
Comments (11)I don't have stacker doors, I am too far south and want an airtight seal. We are doing Binq slider which are 2400 high and around 4 mtr long - only opening one side. I can have it open to the middle or the kitchen though. And we will have a large window where the living room is as I want a cosy winter nook. But of course our living window can open for breeze too and will be about 2mtr wide at least. From what you guys are saying opening to the middle of the extension is preferable! I guess as I am the cook standing about I was thinking of myself with a pleasant breeze blowing around me as I stir my pot. ;-)...See MoreNeed help restyling our open plan area
Comments (13)Hi there, Your couches are gorgeous. Just quickly, I’d swap the dining table and two single yellow arm chairs. Then I’d rotate the table 90 degrees if possible. I think if I were going to make any furniture purchases I would first replace all the dark furniture (dining table and bench seats) with white furniture to help bounce some light around. Dark furniture absorbs light like crazy. Thoughts on the kitchen reno would be to keep the bench top and splashback white and then accent with yellow and black. Timber usually softens and warms a space so maybe something like that for the cabinetry but timber isn’t the only finish to provide that feel. This leads into my next thought that white, black and deep yellow can appear quite harsh so maybe some some soft furnishings like some fluffy pillows and rug and a couple of throws might help bring some gentleness and cosy-ness into the space. All the best with it and love to see what you do with the space....See MoreOpen plan kitchen, living, dining advice
Comments (17)it's a very strange plan for a new build but of course we're used to looking at Australian plans...who will use the downstairs bathroom and three living areas and how many will live in the house and do you expect to have long stay guests? is there an upstairs bathroom you'll be sorry if there isn't.....do you have no neighbours and great views in every direction?..what is the distance from the outside walls to the boundaries....i suggest that you need to spend more time thinking about how you'll live in the house before choosing windows..if you enlarge the plan and make some cut out scale sized furniture you can trial different ways that furniture and kitchen cabinets can be placed in the rooms and make sure that you allow at least 1m pathways around the furniture..even if you have to pay for local authorities to reconsider the plans it's very important to make sure that you have the best possible arrangements..it costs no different to build a better plan and you'll enjoy the benefits for the lifetime of the house...can you repost the plans with dimensions clearly shown and also add a copy of the upstairs and you should receive lots of great ideas and i'll also redraw some ideas to consider...See MoreAdvice For an Open-Plan Layout Needed
Comments (15)we need more information to offer specific advice...please clearly show the dimensions of the rooms, what are the walls, floor and roof made out of and we need a view of the roof..but what is the purpose of the raised ceiling?? unless you're prepared to rebuild the whole roof it's unlikely that you can raise the ceiling in part of the house without very expensive substantial changes to the structure of the building and it would be much more cost effective to plan an extension with a raised ceiling but what reason did the designers have for not being able to make a suitable plan for you??...See Moredaniellemcguckin
