The flooring is a 220mm wide board French Oak "Mink" engineered board.
It is 15mm thick with a 4mm top layer of oak and plywood based. Great for use where the floor is subject to a lot of light (heat) thus it is more stable in its movement.
Thanks very much Steve. About to build the 20yr family home and very much indecided about flooring. We love the wooden floorboards, but with young boys and dogs we feel they will just turn into a headache - even with the engineered boards. Thinking about the wooden look-a-like tiles but not sold on them yet either. Would you reco these boards given the above scenario ?
The colour of the engineered board is not full depth so it will be prone to scratches.
Another option is to go for a wide 180mm secret nailed and glued board: say a vic ash and apply a stain to get the desired colour. It will be more robust but will still scratch with dog claws. The advantage is that you can sand a few times and re-stain.
Look a like tiles are about $100m2 plus laying so can be expensive.
