Walk-in-showers are great for large bathrooms, but are problematic for small bathrooms. Even more so with a timber floor which does not comply with the regulations for waterproofness for wet areas. There are regulations in place that your waterproofing will need to comply with, as set out by the Building Code of Australia and Australian Standards (AS 3740-1994). You will need to do some research and speak to a professional as you are heading for disaster with the combination of a timber bathroom floor, a small bathroom, a walk-in shower, no waterproof membrane to protect the floor and no understanding of the legal requirements. Houses of the 1920's traditionally had tiled floors so I would be looking at one of my suppliers such as the Olde English Tile Company to help you source somethiing that is period appropriate and legal instead of timber floors. This is an ideal situation for a very short toilet. why do so many of them stick out from the wall SO far. Here it would be great if the loo was minimum eg. 450 from wall so as you can get past it easily. Yes you can use an in wall cistern but often the pan is still sticking out like a sore thumb. I would love to see a loo that is no further out than a vanity: neat, tidy discrete.

So I have decided against doing a feature wall on wall running alongside shower as it will make the room too dark. Instead the feature tiles will be on the wall behind the shower mixer. I am now in a quandry re the vanity wall. The floor will be light grey concrete style tiles, walls satin white and the ceiling is a raked ceiling made from baltic pine which over time has gone orangey tone. Do I get a plane white vanity, charred oak timber look (grey), another timber tone? I have decided on 1200 mm wall hung vanity but need help on colour and whether or not I put a mirrored cabinet on wall above vanity also. I originally had decided against any cabinetry above the vanity.

Hi squirrel30. I ended up, on a professional's advice, having the whole bathroom stripped and redone. It actually worked out cheaper than any of the seemingly more innovative solutions. It seemed a shame to discard a lot of stuff that was in good order, but to get the result we wanted it proved the best approach and I'm delighted with the result. We had the floor pulled up and replaced with 600 x 600 textured grey tiles and 900 wide tiles in the shower with a grate at the end so in a very, very large shower we have only 3 grout lines and they are dark grey. We used slab tiles on the walls in the shower with dark grey grouting and 600 x 600 tiles elsewhere. Again resulting in very few grout lines, and no glass at all! I'm still interested to know more about microcement but I can't get anyone to answer inquiries. I've responded to a dozen or so ads but nobody has ever bothered to contact me. Not sure I would trust a supplier who is that disinterested in potential customers!!
