As no one discussed whether the size of the table was correct, I thought I would throw in a few tips... 1. The table should be placed a minimum of a metre away from the walls (or buffet) so that when someone is sitting down, a person can easily get behind this person to sit down at the next chair. 2. Allow 0.5m within the alignment of a passageway, so that people aren't encroaching onto the passageway when seated. Also so the furniture is not jutting out visually into the hallway. 3. You need to allow for comfortable passage beside the island bench through to the back door. From the plan shown, all this will work. To know whether the table will fit and where it should be placed. It is best to mark out the position of the table on the floor and then put chairs up to this so you can imagine where the chairs will be in relation to the space (both when in use and pushed in). Better still, so you can fully visualise the volume the table takes up, get a smaller table and cut up a cardboard to the right size and put it on top. All the best, Mark

Hi Ondapc The side board is lovely - with silvery tones running through. Black table top would coordinate with other parts of your decor. Then add silver Thonnet cafe chairs for a bit of bling. Some yellow in the mix - lamp shade? painting- would add personality. Have fun.

Hi anzella, loving the new table and chairs, because you live in North QLD I wouldn't worry about a rug under the table, apart from you climate I find rugs under tables can become very annoying . If however you do decide to have one down the track, Sisal Rugs are great for your climate, you can even make your own to whatever size by buying the sisal and edging it yourself or getting a carpet place to overlock the edges. To be blunt -- the room isn't really big enough ! So you have to sort out priorities , and space . You have a dining table , and a computer desk . Can you get rid of the computer desk , by having your computer tower mounted behind the couch or similar , and a wireless keyboard and mouse that you can use on the dining table ? Mount the monitor on a wall , or if you don't need in depth graphics , I understand you can use your TV ( I've heard something about the 'refresh rate' is less on a TV ? ) . Maybe even have a monitor but also the option of using your TV ? Could you use a 'breakfast bar' , probably where the computer desk is now , I know its not sociable all staring at a wall , but it would/could serve as a brakfast bar and computer workstation . Could you get rid of the dining table and chairs , and have a large coffee table , or 2 smaller ones , and eat 'casually' ( my polite way of saying eat sitting on the couch ) ? Even mounting the TV on the wall will let you get rid of the cabinet , but I gather you have gaming consoles in there ? And the present arrangement with the pot plants uses some space -- maybe some shelves with them on will still retain the plants but free up floor space ? Just some thoughts off the top of my head .
