Retro curtains or no retro curtains

Comments (5)Most curtains (except sheers) benefit from the weighted hem as mentioned previously. You could also try 'training' the fabric to stack and fall, by folding concertina style across the width of each curtain. The outward pleats should match your pinch pleats, with the gully between them. It's a little fiddly to get right, as fabrics are usually off-grain, but well worth the effort. Loosely tie them with tape, ribbon etc. close to both the header tape and the hem for a few hours, or overnight. If your curtains are long and/or heavy, another tie in the middle may be needed. They should continue to drape well once released. If your rail has a cord closing mechanism (not hand drawn), it should be possible to release some cord to help the front slider cross in front of the secondary slider. However, if the weight of fabric is pulling the rail down, the rail could need extra support across its length, or a sturdier model... Hope this helps!...See MoreCURTAINS OR DRAPES?
Comments (3)Going to be joining you annb - I've never heard there was a difference between curtains/drapes - it was more just a choice of wording. I've always had curtains and made them myself from scratch to have exactly what I wanted without the cost. I always felt curtains look more luxurious, really dress a room and give it a more finished look. The problem now though is being able to buy the fabric, there just aren't the stores like their used to be. When I find a new house to buy, it will depend on the style of the house, but I'm looking at just having blinds or maybe shutters, not quite sure what style though, it will be a bit wrench not having the luxury look of curtains and will take some getting used to....See MoreHandles for eyelet curtains
Comments (10)I had this exact issue! Recently bought 2 clear curtain rod pulls (spotlight). Managed to attach them to the inside of the first eyelet by hooking them over from back. No sewing. They're not visible from the room, sit just inside the edge and blend well with the silver eyelet at the front. They work ok, better for the opening process. They'd probably be better if they were a bit more solid for heavy curtains like mine. When closing I still find I need to grab some of the curtain from the back with the rod at the same time but they do help to lift my heavy curtains a bit over extension part of the curtain rail where they previously always got caught. Hopefully you can see from the pics. Good luck with it...See Moregrapefruit1_ar
