Comments (164)In my early twenties I designed kitchens for my mother and two aunts (Uncle built them and they worked), but when it came to designing my own - had to fit a constrained space and no possibility of extension - I chewed my lips for ages - like Nicole, I drew and measured ad infinitum, and used graph book walls, views etc. I did one extra thing - which I think worked - I listed all that I wanted to store, and tried to analyse how I liked working in the kitchen. Some things I had to settle for because of space (such as a smaller dishwasher) but most of it has worked. We have a corner pantry, which I (and the cat, husband a bit larger) can walk into, but have not put small appliances in there - they sit in a large drawer beneath the main working bench, which also works well. It all looks good to me Nicole and thinking carefully about needs and how things work in advance usually results in something you'll be happy with. Good luck!...See MoreAdvice needed for stair design issues in new build
Comments (17)Hi everyone, thank you for your feedback. So we took some measurements and it appears that they really have only just left enough space to fit in the original design with no margin for error. Without being millimetre perfect, which I know is impossible to achieve, if I ask them to rip out the current stairs, I suspect I'll be left with a worse situation and a stair in the hallway. Really very upset with this, I expected a custom designed house to be as designed, otherwise we probably should have just gone with a project home which would have cost a lot less! I was very clear with them about the stairs, absolutely no winders, a flat platform and no where in any plans was there a step in the landing! This whole house was designed around the stairs, which is why I'm so annoyed that it's not correct! With respect to the weird wall in the middle, that will be plastered up and capped to rake up with the stairs. The photo's don't show the large window in the stairwell, and once painted white, it should still be very light and bright. I considered glass, very briefly, I'm not keen on cleaning that and thought I would end up with toy's being posted through a balustrade. The tread will remain oak and the riser will be painted white. Going for a modern Australian coastal, hamptons look, classic but not too traditional. I am going to ask them to address the stair frame and step it down in parallel with the step, as opposed to the angle that is currently there on the mid landing, it just looks really bad when looking up the stairs and the handrail as the kids will need something to hold on to now there is a step in the mid landing. I'll also be asking that the stair frame sit's flush with the nib wall as it rounds the corner in the junction of the two flights. It sticks out a bit too far for my liking at the moment. I really hope they don't get too many other things wrong!...See MoreHelp me with Drawings and design please
Comments (15)Hello Louise, Hope you are well. Can I please ask a favor in updating the attached plan? Ground Floor: 1. Extend the Family living to include the Alfresco 2. Move existing kitchen+scullery to where laundry is 3. Current void is on Family and Meals - Need one large void to cover the new family area that includes Family+Alfresco 4. Store is not required 5. This plan is based to fit a 17 frontage, need the right to be trimmed 6. Entire plan needs to be flipped since my garage will be on right side First Floor 1. Need one additional bed to be created 2. Meals had a void, since the void is now moved to cover family+alfresco - can you please add a bed instead of void there and a balcony to be shared between Bed 4 and new bed created 3. Need a total of 3 bath on top 5. Bed 2 needs to be turned into a Master bed 6. Need to retain sitting, can loose the Activity 7. Beds look smaller, need all beds to be minimum 3.5*3.5 This is based on plan from https://www.stannardhomes.com.au/display-home/aria/ Thank you for helping...See Morebechandersen
