single sink in kitchen and double in butler's pantry??
Comments (8)Hi qlder, how funny that we had the same dilemma a few months ago... when I said to interior designer that butler's sink was too small (and it was miniature :/ ) she too suggested we swapped sinks by putting the double in the butler's pantry and the butler's sink in the kitchen... initially I thought great idea, but then I realised the whole point of designing an open plan kitchen was so I could be part of the action while in the kitchen, most of which time I spend at the sink... another point to consider is that if you have kids/teenagers, they're not going to bother going around to the butler's pantry and will just dump their dirty dishes at the nearest available sink, then you end up taking them to the bigger sink... I have seen display homes with double sinks in butler's pantry but then so was the dishwasher, and I note from your post that your dishwasher's in the kitchen so it would make more sense to me to have the double sink there as well... in the end we kept the double sink in the kitchen (personal pref & for reasons stated above) but as the butler's sink was way too small, we upgraded to a bigger 'laundry trough size' sink for washing pots and pans etc in the butler's pantry...See Morekitchen layout - finessing
Comments (17)the kitchen should suit the way you like to work but as the sink has to be on that side everything else fits where you have them and there's is space for a 90cm wide cooktop, stacked wall oven and microwave, twin fridge freezer, double sink and dishwasher with double power points as listed at 1 for fridge freezer, 2 or 4 for kettle and toaster, 3. dishwasher 4 or 5 food processor, mixer etc 6 and 7 stove and range hood 8 oven and microwave as well as a power point in the island for other bench top appliances and there should also be power in the pantry if you intend to use appliances or have an extra fridge in there..also consider underbench drawers sized to suit what you want to store eg big drawers under the cooktop or wall oven for saucepans, wall cabinets for cups and glasses above the sink...See MoreDouble sink on Butler instead in the Main Kitchen
Comments (54)Hi Siri, appreciate your time in changing the layout but I still prefer my current one. although I'm happy to resize things but not move around. I made a mock-up last night but not sure if the changes i made will still fit. I've convert the linen to WIL although not sure if the modification i made is enough. I'll send this through to my builder. Thanks M.B. for your valuable input. I also do handwashing but my concerns: on placing the sink are 1. I have to do undermount sink to look good but then I need a drying rack beside it. so logically the the normal sink is better functionally but no pleasing to the eye :). 2. Wife doesn't want a mess in the island bench. also, she wants to utilize the whole thing when we host parties (food in the bench). 3. I prefer facing the window to see my garden/landscape while washing. And if we decided to use the DW, atleast, it's all there 4. Normal double sink and DW will come together in the butler. once the plates are dried up, we can store them in the cabinet?...See MoreHelp! Kitchen design dilemma
Comments (16)I much prefer the configuration with the fridge out of the scullery. I would find it annoying having to walk in and out of there while cooking. Having everything within a few steps reach makes life so much easier when cooking. For ease of use the prep area, sink, cook top, fridge, oven and serving area should all be accessible within a triangle space. I thought I wanted our sink in the scullery until we house sat in a house that had one in there and hated it... washing dishes is mundane enough, I couldn't stand having to do it standing alone in a cupboard! Because of that experience, we ended up putting our sink in our island bench. I worried about the mess, but now I am so glad we did it. Having the sink so handy while cooking and and being able to still be a part of the family while cleaning up has been wonderful....See MoreLaurie Krauss
