Hi Charles, Firstly, I am not a designer or anything but I have just spent over 12 months planning & designing my house so I've looked at heaps of plans & I've done lots of research. This is what I have come up with.. I think you can leave it with the same layout and just extend the wall off the rumpus. Yes it eats in to you bi-fold doors but I have a plan to counteract that & not sacrifice the light & open plan. Using corner stacker doors (much cheaper than bi-fold) will open this space right up to the alfresco area. Not sure what you had planned for this area but if you were planning on having a built in bbq area it could be done on the back of the rumpus room wall (in the space where I extended the wall). I also think you will have more flexibility if you have doors entering the rumpus rather than sliding doors as you can use the wall space without having to worry about the wall cavity. I printed your plan off & had a play so check it out & see what you think. I will not be offended however if you don't like my ideas as its your house & it needs to suit you & your family. Two years later... We ended up purchasing a 3-seater for wall opposite fireplace, a 2-seater for under the highlight window (leaves a comfortable space to enter the room) and an armchair placed diagonally opposite the couches. I've fooled the advice to pull the furniture in off the walls a little. We have just updated the fireplace with the (professional) installation of an insert wood heater and (DIY) replacement of hearth and tiles/timber mantel to conceal the brick while meeting the safety specifications of the heater (required a much wider/deeper hearth than the existing brick one so we removed and replaced with a slab of honed granite, and the minimum height for breastplate/mantel shelf posed a few design limitations). TV mounted above fireplace to allow for better furniture placement. Not quite the picture I had settled on 2 years ago, but works with the style of updates we have made elsewhere. It's hard to see dimensions on your plan, but my thoughts were a long 4S Sofa facing a wall mounted TV (on swivel bracket) opposite. Instead of an 'L' shaped modular, use an upholstered ottoman that can be moved around the space for additional seating (so in an 'L' shape in front of the screen wall, as suggested below), or can be used as a coffee table by placing a large tray on top. If you are taking out the wall, move it towards your dining area (this space seems to be on the larger size for a dining room?). Reduce the wall by half, hence opening up the space, but instead of a solid wall, perhaps timber screening like the pic attached. To create an 'entrance' at your front door, you could also install a smaller screen leading to the back of the sofa. In front of this, you could place a side table and a lamp?...assuming you have some wall space between the front door and the front window?...you do not need much of a wall for the screen. You could also position an occasional feature chair on the TV wall facing back to the sofa on an angle at the front window side? The right side of the TV wall, as you look at it,(if you push the wall out), could be wall storage or shelving.

Kates layout is how I want to position everything long term but that won't happen for 3-5 years at a minimum ( and partner still isnt sold on the table location as it leaves a huge empty space at the entry) That tall cabinet in the kitchen is home to easy access for drinking glasses/dinner plates/coffee machine/food processor/extra food draws (PPT is oddly positioned between the fridge and cabinet and we need it for the coffee machine due to lack of bench space to house it 24/7, the "blue" item is our grocery bags as we havent found a more functional place for them and even if we move the cabinet over, it's still to narrow for any furniture so I'm considering it "dead space" for now until we renovate the kitchen. Our gas stove has to be manually lit every time and the gas oven barely works so we are using the microwave cabinet to house our mini oven until we have more money to renovate the kitchen (I want to replace it as our cooking is limited to a microwave sized dish but havent convinced myself if its worth it if we renovate and convert long term to gas stove/electric oven in a few of years). Unfortunately, everyones suggestions for multiple chairs for our living room I honestly think it just isnt feasible for the size of the space where the sunroom doors are positioned (which will stay as a double door) so I think long term we need to stick to only 1 seated lounge maximum 2m long. Re: the TV, we have a 75" in the bedroom and an unused 40" which will be the better option for the living room one day when its less clutered. It's a real struggle for our table as I don't like the 6 seater for the "size" of the home but it's our only option for entertaining guests as there is 0 outdoor entertainment space (realistically a 4 seater would be ample for a 2/3 bedder. None of our car/alcohol cabinets will suit being positioned along the window wall due to their height and widths as they will block the window. Our laundry is external to the home and is roughly 1.2x1.5m and the sink is in the middle of the wall. It's a horrendous layout but I found out it was an addition paid for and provided by the government i'd say around 10 years ago as it was originally a commission home. It isn't even waterproofed properly (yikes). It has enough room to house our washing machine, the sink in middle of the wall and our chest freezer. Nothing else fits so we are designing our IKEA PAX closet in our bedroom to house a majority of our shoes. In all honesty, we own too much and have kind of just shoved acerage sized living into a small commission home and tried to make it work (but its a struggle), we were gifted so many large pieces that are all mis-matched. I love all your ideas and suggestions and I hope that one day when we have enough coin to design and have a coherent theme and properly planned layout for the living areas and kitchen we can implement some of your ideas.
