Blank canvas - what would you do?

Hi, interested to hear what you would do for pendent lights and bar stools in this kitchen space. Obviously it's still under construction but we are close so time to make those next decisions! Flooring will be a light oak timber. What lighting would you do and what bar stools. Original plan was black / timber accents with pendents in the 'standard' 3 in a row but do you think that a trend that has passed???!! What about a suspended strip or clustering?

Comments (46)Thanks everyone for your further comments. No problem about it being an old post, always nice to communicate with people about design solutions/problems. Jilly, I posted some photos on 1st January 2016, they appear further up in the post. Garden Beet Pty Ltd, and Morel Construction Ltd, both of your solutions look great, but our problem still remains the western Queensland sun which is pretty vicious on anything that will either wilt, fade or break down. It was quite a difficult challenge to come up with something that was affordable, workable and durable. I would love to have had plants because I believe they soften large "hard" exterior areas, but we have decided that we will do that with pots around the pool area. Comments (5)I totally agree with Fusion LD. There are so many opportunities with your great blank space, however you need to consider what you want to achieve from the garden. It looks quite detached from the house, so how do you draw people (you and your family, friends, etc) out into the garden? Will this space be your main outdoor entertaining / dining area? Do you have children or pets and need a more open activity area or can it be divided up into smaller spaces? It looks like it has really good northerly aspect, so do you want a vegetable garden / herb planters / fruit trees? If the second photo is the view from the main access to the garden, then that gives you a starting point for attracting people into the garden. A glimpse of a feature tree or ornament from this point could be all it takes to create that invitation. Use planting and the shape of a path to hide enough of the garden to create a sense of discovery. So many opportunities here for you! PS. Comments (11)My recommendation.. But you need to paint out that timber landing.. It’s drawing your attention there for no reason.. It’s a decorative element that has no benefit. Which is why you feel the need to “place” something there. As a professional I wold recommend that you paint it out white so it disappears and doesn’t “compete” Witt your front door.. If you don’t believe me.. Try this truck.. Cover the area with white cardboard.. Then take a photo or leave it there and see if the “landing bothers you anymore” Bet you it won’t!!...See MoreP W

7 years agoI have had this lighting in my last two kitchens and it's fantastic. Great task lighting which is great for actually seeing what you're doing! And it's clean lines make it almost disappear.
