Help with dining chairs to go with this table
Comments (12)Hi Sam, I know where you're coming from, I too wanted to buy such a beautiful ornate table for my new home still under construction but it just wasn't going to look like it matched the modern home I wanted to put it in. I also wanted to feel like it could be used as most kitchen tables in a home are used, especially for me living on a farm, for eating or repairing something on some newspaper etc...impossible to do on such a beautiful table, you would ruin it to see it scratched !!! Not to put a damper on your tastes but your home will look so much better and have more style if you continue to try to match what you already have and that's at least a stunning kitchen that you've shown us all on this forum. If you think of the style and colour of your kitchen everytime you want to buy something or decorate, it will hep ground you to keep it similar. I understand there are people who say it's nice to have countless pieces of furniture that are all different in some way, as it can look like you acquired them along your journey in life but I think that this mixture of designs and colours doesn't gel in a modrrn house very well at all, perhaps a quaint old cottage but not a modern home with a lovely kitchen like you already have!!!...See MoreCan this coffee table work in this room?
Comments (14)Thanks for the opportunity to look at your room and think about what I would do. It has been fun. I think the round coffee table will work if it is large enough for everyone seated in the L sofa arrangement to reach it. (Bonus is no barked shins from sharp corners on a square one.) I agree pale colours like yellow won't do much for bringing about a changed more modern look. The room needs more drama and freshness and I think that currently the room has too many colours in the pale range and not enough contrast. I would go for introducing more of the stronger colours in your attractive tribal fabric, including black and white. Black in particular will allow you to really update the look. Consider painting the bookcase or even the doors black. (The existing coffee table would even look good painted glossy black.) Some plump cushions in the tribal fabric and others in a bigger more graphic design in large red and white zigzags or stripes say, would add to a more integrated look. Your bright yellow pot plant holder on the bookcase is another colour in your tribal fabric which would look good in the scheme as a minor accent, say, more pots that colour in a larger size, a big vase/artwork or lampshade. My advice is to stay away from golds and beiges as they relate to older fashions. A large framed in black graphic print on the wall in black and white (or even photo with meaning to you) could be an idea to think about too....See MoreHow do I make my rental living room work?
Comments (7)As you haven't supplied any measurements, it's a little hard to gauge the correct size of the lounge etc, however, I would definitely take the dining table out of the lounge. Like oklouise, I would set that up in the kitchen area. I would opt to place it hard against the laundry wall and pull it out into the kitchen when it is required. I would also opt to have a narrow table that could be lifted to become fullsize. How friendly a terms are you on with your landlord? I would be putting a good case forward to him/her to install a heat-pump high on the wall above where the dining table is in your pic. There looks to be an area outside the WC wall to place the outside unit and it would be very easy to duct through to install the inside unit. While at it, get the heater taken out. Hopefully, the landlord would be able to see that a heat-pump would be cost effective whilst freeing up the corner for you. Do a little research beforehand. I would put the TV, and other lounge cabinetry on the white wall that backs onto the kitchen and if possible, around the corner slightly, where the heater is. That would free up the remainder of brick wall that has no window on it, for you to arrange your seating. As already suggested, I would also set your guitars up near the base of the stairs. Thoroughfare from the entrance, to the stairs, to the outside and to the kitchen and bathroom needs to be an uninterrupted flow....See MoreHow can I tie my living and dining room together?
Comments (28)bigreader has had some excellent tips. The rug you've chosen is lovely, but you definitely need a bigger size. A larger rectangle size might have more underneath the couch. You can check out online options. The blue is fantastic, once you have that repeated around both areas your room will have much better flow. One other thing to think about when you are ready to change your lounge is to get something with a lower back (same with dining chair), these help a more visual flow than high back chairs....See Morecuracaoblue
