Anyone used Porcelain for kitchen benchtop

Hi all,

I'm considering using porcelin benchtop for my kitchen island bench with a waterfall edge.

Anyone had experiences with cracks? Scratching etc.

It concerns me it's only 6ml compared to 20ml. I know they mitre the edges etc.

Would love to hear about your experiences.

Hi ,

Plenty of porcelain compositions do get used for benchtops - a 6mm profile is perfect for creating an ultra sleek modern finish too. What you need to be aware of are the manufacturers warranties and use guidelines - as every one will differ. If your particular product is indeed intended for use within a kitchen and includes warranty - then you should have no concern. Often - dependent on the supplier, porcelain can be more durable than natural stone or engineered stone!

We will be using Forbo furniture linoleum in our new kitchen. We'd like to use it on benchtops as well as some vertical surfaces but we don't think it's tough enough for benchtops. Does anyone have experience of using it on bechtops? Advice would be much appreciated.

Hi, this is like asking "how long is a piece of string". Porcelain tops are not priced by the square meter but instead on how much material is required, which type of Vasari you select and how much labour is involved in the fabrication and installation. Every kitchen benchtop is different and needs to be priced accordingly. I would suggest you talk to your local Cabinetmaker experienced in Porcelain tops or your local specialist Stone Fabricator for a quote. Hope this helps, Malcolm.
