How do I decorate? What colour with purple?
Comments (20)Hi I love the lounge colour and your coffee table. I think if space is an issue and you need the study area go with the ply wood suggestion on the storage drawers and decorate with cool stationary accessories like bright folders and storge files etc. I love the teal green idea and also apple green cushions. I feel like with the lounge and coffee table style you could get away witth introducing some almost industrial accessories. I think metallics are great to lift a room and there are so many colours ranging from muted neutrals to bright gold and silver. I also love playing with texture and you can get some great metallic wall art, lamps, vases etc mixed with cosy throws and rugs. I love metallics teamed with neutral especially your grey walls and colour of your floor boards. Good luck and Happy decorating Kind regards Alison...See More'She Shed'? 'Mummy Cave'? What are they called, and how do I design me
Comments (5)I personally don't do the feminist thing of She shed, etc, I just call it MY ROOM AND IF YOU DISTURB ME YOUR CHOICE OF PUNISHMENT! Hee hee, no, I call mine my Workroom. Like you I have a ton of things to do in there! I craft, I bead, I have storage, and I occasionally just go down there with a glass of wine, turn on a CD and chill on the chair looking out at the scenery. My room is a work in progress, too. What I do is have designated spots for different work areas. So one wall has beading supplies, another wall has craft and knitting supplies and the other has storage and in the middle is a big rug where I can lay down and veg or actually do yoga if I so desire. For you, I suggest you do a mix, since your walls are limited, put a chair and a table (can be longer like a bench if you have the room) along that hip height window. You need natural light for any painting, etc you like to do. The cupboard you mention can become your storage area for the painting equipment. You mention you wish to study too, so having a half side of the table for painting and the other half for studying should do the trick. The fact you want to exercise, run nuddies, relax etc can be done in the middle of the room. Without dimensions I can't really offer much else. Is it possible to get a few pics of the area with something in perspective, (kitchen chair is easiest) if there is no furniture already in there? Sounds like a hodgepodge in the Heaven Haven. ;)...See MoreWhat style of overhead cupboards could we add to our 1950's styled kit
Comments (13)Hi there, I love the look of your 50's kitchen: takes me back to my childhood home but our kitchen was about 4 cupboards and 3 overheads!! By todays std it was like one of the pantries people are putting in!! I was impressed with the "see what you need to store first": that is the best place to start, then thought glass display cupboards were all the go but you have those! Unless you could copy them for the corners? Then I thought open shelving with micro on one: NEVER on the bench. Timber shelves could have bright multi coloured glass or china which was all the rage! Please tho do not go for the lounge curtains with red, orange and every other colour large squares: nothing subtle or quiet about them and nothing nice about them either!! Cheers Margot...See MoreWhat style of house is this and how to update?
Comments (12)Its slightly difficult , because of the 'permanent' colours . By that , I mean that if you paint the roof and/or the bricks , you have ongoing upkeep , and even then , the brown undertones will always show a little bit . My personal bias is that I don't like painted bricks either -- they just look too fake IMO . The front fence is another problem -- its slightly annoying , because I quite like the bricks , they are quite an interesting colour , but the overall house style is so dated that it detracts from the bricks . But from the street , with the palm and the fence etc , the overall 'feel' I quite like -- its only you , standing on the front lawn , seeing the worst parts of the design , that gets that slight cringe factor . So do you spend lots to please you , or a little bit to please everyone ? If it was me , I'd try and almost invent my own modern fake tudor -- everything that is white I'd paint in Surfmist or similar ( a slightly blue toned offwhite ) , I'd keep the battens but do them and the gutters etc in Monument or similar ( charcoal tones ) , whilst the two gharage doors I'd replace with natural wood ones with a cedar or maybe even a Japanese Black stain ( sort of a bluey black ) . There's still be a lot of brown , but the more modern colours will offset some of that , and maybe even make the interesting bricks and interesting roof shape more noticeable , and project a good vibe !...See More- 8 years ago
