black treads vs timber treads
Comments (7)The black tread would be nice if you were having black flooring everywhere else. I think given you are having matte tallowood everywhere else, it is more streamlined and less 'bitsy' if you stayed all with the one surface....See MoreHelp! What colour cabinets go with black granite benchtops? Not white!
Comments (13)Don't go with white. While it is easy to replace door fronts and drawer fronts you won't be able to replace the tall vertical panels adjacent to the fridge recess and the microwave recess without pulling out half of your cabinetwork. If you went with a white you wouldn't be able to match the same white as these vertical panels, and the new white would look off next to the old white or vice versa! I'm afraid there is no easy solution that will make the new doors blend in with the old vertical panels, so I would go with a bold contrast colour block that looks good with the white vertical panels, as well as the black granite. Perhaps consider a Piet Mondrian inspired kitchen facelift, by introducing some black edging to the vertical cabinets and a careful composition of blocks of primary colours? Comments (28)Before choosing any surface, do the finger test, unless you are house clean slave. The finger test is see what marks show with a slightly greasy(hand lotion) fingers. Most blacks show finger marks big time. Same with counter tops. Best test is scatter with bread crumbs, if that disturbs you forget it, otherwise you will be kitchen cleaning all day. The same goes for concealed handles, they quickly get full of crusted much and chip easy. A working kitchen needs to be practical, easy to clean and totally family proof....See MoreInternal Caraccas white or black melamine?
Comments (4)Hi Shishir, congratulations on building a new home- exciting times. Bottega Oak is a very dark wood grain and your kitchen will look more refined with the black melamine interiors. As part of renovations, we have a mainly black kitchen and in seeing the white melamine against black in the showroom and then comparing with the black we made the late call to change the interiors and drawers to the black. Have added some pics for reference. So glad we did. To me the white against the black looks cheap. Some say black interiors makes it harder to find things but this has not been our experience. That said, if you prefer white you really only see it when doors & drawers are open. On another note and just my opinion, using the two different textures/colours of Smartstone is not the best idea. The Amara has veining and the Arcadia has the polished stone chips design. I would go for all Amara for a seamless look, choose a plain white for the benchtop or use another splashback material such as tile as the feature. Good luck & be sure to post pictures of your finished home....See MoreRenae Michelle
