Hi Sean! You're right, it's nice to preserve the vintage feel. I would advise against the very light blue or very light grey. Instead, I'd consider a medium grey with blue in it instead. Or even green in it. Try Dulux Tinker (blue base) or Dulux Viridis (green base). You still won't get a particularly beachy look with the brown brickwork, but if you introduce sand coloured elements here and there the blue or green greys will work a treat. Also carport ceiling/eaves could have a nod to the warmer sand colour (Dulux Ecru) as an example. Just suggestions of course. Have fun with it. Giulianna

Yes go monument!and if you go for some lime acacias out the front (tall weeping or the low bush)it would brighten up you whole look.Also adding strappy green plants that bulk up would give it a bit more of a clean look. If you don't want to go monument on roof go a light grey and tie in with a couple of tall light grey planters on either side of your door. Pleas please please!find someone with a jigsaw and cut the tops off your pickets to give a cleaner look before you paint them. I'm stating the obvious but those security screens are pretty overwhelming,can you just have them on windows that can be opened,it might not look so busy out the front.

Suggest rather than hanging g plants that you plant climbers eg a grapevine or bougainvillea into a half wine barrel or into other large pots or elsebreak up the concrete around the car port posts so plant a climber. A pandorea would be nice.Re earlier comment : forget nasturtiums unless for pots of annual colour as they are short living annuals only. You need sturdy perennial climbers to grow over and around the car port to soften it. Replace the white balustrade with something modern and place some lArge modern pot plants with large greenery on the balcony also to soften it. I would suggest a warm cream in place of the stark white to blend with the red brick. They greys and charcoals eg monument are verycookie cutter and a current trend that we are all heartily sick of. Using them will date the house very quickly.
