Comments (3)guess you would have completed the update by now but just in case, They built great houses in the 70"s, a lot had concrete tiled roofs, have them checked and if sound paint them grey along with gutter and barge boards as you suggested but please do a soft grey otherwise it will look too top heavy, down pipes same colour as bricks (photo of soft grey roof) Paint garage doors same as brick colour minus the stripe, Front entrance update would help, does this open into a small foyer Railing, windows painted, I prefer black for this, I have attached a photo of a house that the owners had the roof painted, they painted all the metal windows themselves, said it was easy. Paving in front of entrance, this photo shows they used white pebbles and pavers with a small screen, plus a new hedge. similar entrance doors to these let in much needed light as these houses can be quite dark...See MoreColours to paint roof, gutters and window frames to match bricks?
Comments (4)I would be looking to counterbalance the intensity of the orange brick by introducing some olive greens into the trim and gutters. I don't know if your budget would extend to refinishing the roof tiles in a similar green. Get samples of Colorbond Pale Eucalyptus and Wilderness to see how they look against the brick. If neither work then consider Colorbond Woodland Grey. Of course some decent landscaping will help break up the mass of orange and soften the look. Comments (0)We are needing to replace 30 year old gutters that were originally a terracotta colour and were painted cream in the early 90s. We are keeping the 'cottage red' terracotta roof tiles and the sandstock bricks (we like them and don't want to render or paint them). For now, the carport roof will remain with cream gutters but we intend to paint to match house at some stage. In the photo, there is also a pool shed which has a galvanised silver roof and the timber cladding is still to be painted. We have gone round and round trying to decide on the right colourbond colours to tie everything together. We have settled on manor red for gutter and surfmist for fascia covers. We would probably paint the soffits surfmist as well. Would appreciate any thoughts on this combination or suggestions for alternatives before we go ahead. Comments (9)Nerida, I would probably use Dulux Vivid White, which is better than Dulux Whisper White for trim as it is a purer white. Woodland Grey will work with gutters and downpipes, although with the yellow tones of the brickwork I would get samples of other colours in the blue/grey range which will counterbalance the yellows. Colorbond Deep Ocean and Colorbond Ironstone could be options. The underside of your verandah looks like it may have been stained timber at one stage, but has been painted brown and concealed any grain? I can't quite make it out from the photo? If this is the case then consider a fresh paint colour such as a quarter strength of your gutter and downpipe colour. There is no rule saying that all eaves have to be white. You can't lime wash over paint that conceals the timber grain. I will be in Adelaide mid-October if you want to set up a Dr Retro House Call colour consultation for your home.
