Need help with kitchen rangehood and open shelving combo

Hi We are doing a
new build for sale and I am working closely on design & spec to achieve an
overall finish that hopefully reads more designer and less builder spec home.
Our overall design direction is "coastal elegance" but with a lean
to modern/contemporary rather than veering into full on "Hamptons". The likely buyers are
late 30's early 40's couple both working full time with school age kids.

So now to my actual dilemma - I thought I had the kitchen design
and style choices nailed - white gloss cabinets, polished concrete bench tops,
white subway tile splashback, light oak floors, opted for floating
shelves (timber) and a canopy range hood, rather than overhead cupboards .....
for a bit of variation on the project home look and also for a bit of warmth
and personality (storage is not an issue as it's a good size kitchen with WIP).

I was progressing
well until today when an experienced appliance salesman working in the suburb
we are building in (so knows the market) was VERY concerned at my choice
of canopy range hood. I was thinking the traditional canopy shape as I
felt that the more modern angular T shape canopies were too harsh for the overall
look I was going for. His advice was that 9 out of every 10 canopy sales
now are the T style and that the traditional style was no longer popular and
was considered old fashioned and may actually be a negative with buyers. And now I’m thinking that maybe I’ve been
going more to my taste rather than the target audience?

So some advice please - do I stick with my original choice of a traditional
canopy shape or is it too "old school" (and a T canopy is the better
option).

To illustrate the 2 canopy styles I've attached 2 photos - not
exactly what my kitchen will look like but illustrates the options.

Thanks – your thoughts would be appreciated.
