Need help with where to put my kitchen!

We are looking at renovating a 2br villa unit. We are planning on gutting the current kitchen and removing two internal walls enclosing the current kitchen area (i.e. the wall which currently has the stove/wall oven on it and the other wall between the laundry and kitchen) to create a more open kitchen/living/dining area (see attached floor plans - picture 1 - original, picture two, I have removed the walls). The problem is after we do that we can't seem to work out where the kitchen should go. Everywhere we think about we seem to end up with a stove/range hood or a fridge blocking a window, which does not look very good. Any advice??

Looks like you have set yourself a challenge. What are your goals with opening up the space? Are you limited with moving plumbing etc. by slab? Have you considered stove with under bench oven in central island bench with overhead range hood. Leave sink/fridge layout as is. Can you then fit narrow cupboards for dishes etc. along the wall of the meals area where aircon is. Having some measurements for window location/size would be helpful. Hopefully this will bump your post and some designers will chip in their ideas...

Just DO it ! You'll need to undercoat to make the paint cover, so once you have done them in white undercoat, you'll wonder why you hesitated.......they'll look brilliant. You could do them one unit at a time, until it looks right but you'll probably find you want to do them all white. Your suggested colour Antique White USA will look awesome and I too would suggest new door handles - it's surprising what just that change can do for a kitchen. The pendant lights would certainly make an inexpensive change to the whole area - I did it recently when I put in a secondhand kitchen and am super-pleased with the end result considering the awful lime green & mustard monstrosity I started with LOL.

Hi Trish, Glass splashbacks can be any Dulux paint colour. As long as you have good lighting like led strip lighting under overhead cupboards you can use the glass splashback to show your personality. Laminex Diamondgloss laminate for the cupboards in a light colour will brighten up your kitchen. This project we used dark edging to the cupboard doors and recessed drawer pulls to make it a bit more interesting rather than it all being the same colour. Hi there, Have you ever heard about the 'work triangle' concept when designing kitchens? https://www.houzz.com/magazine/how-to-set-up-a-kitchen-work-triangle-stsetivw-vs~1042314 It is essentially about connecting the three main elements of the kitchen: the fridge, the cooker and the sink. As a rule, to achieve an efficient layout the triangle formed by lines linking these three elements should total 3.6 -6.6m in my experience. Try to avoid circulation through the triangle - particularly between sink and cooker which should not be more than 1.8m apart. I hope this helps!

are you on a slab or are you able to move kitchen plumbing easily, keep the laundry where it is but make into a cupboard. re design kitchen in same space minus the walls or move the kitchen into the "L" space in the living area so that you have a full height wall again so as to keep the whole space as open as possible

Could the laundry door be moved to the laundry window location and move laundry sink? Then you could plaster over current doorway and put fridge there and possibly range - hard to tell how much space - alternatively range could go in island as per another suggestion.
