Thanks for all the ideas siriuskey - I like being challenged with some left field ideas I hadn't thought of before. For colour schemes we're thinking of a white marble Caesar top with warm white laminate cabinets on the island, then charcoal laminate cabinets against the wall. For splashback we're thinking a high gloss white caesar. This is all just our initial thoughts and we'll probably get the colour consultant back to help us refine those plans and tell us where we've gone wrong :) With regards to getting the rangehood in over the island, I don't think I could swing the industrial look first idea, but the roof-mounted box to bring it down closer to the island top could work. Mounting some downlights into it as well should make lighting more effective too! I'm also warming to your idea of wrapping the cabinetry around onto the return wall and housing the ovens there. It does mean they're a fair hike away from the fridge, but it gives us a LOT more cooktop space which more than likely outweighs spreading the "triangle" out so far. So much to think about! I'm loving all of the ideas though :) I've been thinking of building some seating into the bay window (we've had a couch JAMMED into our bay in the lounge room and its a messy look) so maybe a banquette seat (never knew thats what they're called haha) would work. I just need it to sit relatively low-profile against the wall so that it doesn't make the gap between the seat and island too tight to get through.

You can consider yourself lucky :) Agreed, it would be better to swap the "lounge" and "dining" areas, just because it seems to make more sense to have the dining table next to the kitchen. You could then use the other space and have a large rug, a sofa or two, coffee table, etc. I particularly like the corner that the "laundry" room creates on the lounge. You could have an art wall, or a reading corner, and add personality to your space. Hi Julie - thanks so much for your suggestions. The water features look gorgeous and trust my luck to fancy the more bespoke labour intensive options! That said, I think your last post about the screens are a winner! I actually think this is what i will go for against the fence. I had originally considered this about two years ago and was keen to get a fabulous custom screen done (with foliage of Western australian flowers), however it just got all too hard and I didn't know how to source the right custom supplier. I'm going to investigate this option in the first instance. I can also probably back light it as well as I have some outside lights in the garden that i haven't positioned very well previously that I can probably run behind this to give a different effect at night. Thank you for reminding me and sourcing these gorgeous pictures. They look perfect. The rusted look gives colour and texture that I think will look great against green foliage, and if I can back light it - I hope it will look awesome. Have a great weekend.

Hi Anne, Your home is beautiful with so much potential. There have been some clever ideas presented but I think its important to have an overall plan that you're working towards. This way you avoid needing to re-do certain areas. With the overall plan you would decide which materials you like and what needs to change and then you can stick to that plan as you roll out the changes. For instance, I think the brick on fireplace wall is a lovely feature of the home but the brick in the kitchen area is competing with it. With the timber panelling, it was certainly a feature of the home originally but these days we tend to paint out the panelling to make spaces feel lighter and more open. We often use Dulux China White when working with robust materials like brick and timber as it has a warm stone like tone. In one of the pictures, I can see that there is a full feature brick wall in another room which should creates a lovely flow and consistency. This is a home in Fairhaven Victoria that looked just like yours (but without the brick) and was painted in the China White. Cheers, Vikki.
