Inspiration needed for family room
Comments (7)This is a great space with lots of potential! If you put shelves where the black lamp is, I would suggest also putting the same set of shelves on the other side of the TV to help balance the TV wall. Alternatively, you could put floating shelves on the vacant wall to the left of the TV (first pic) and that will free up the TV wall for a longer entertainment unit when you look at replacing the furniture. I would add a more commanding floor lamp to replace the current one - something that will take up a little more room. A tripod lamp would look best and you can find them really inexpensively these days from Kmart or Freedom. With the artwork, make sure all pieces are hung at the same height, and at an average persons height eye level. To minimise the look of clutter, have all pictures and art in the same frames where possible. Where the Red ottoman is, you can create a nice a wall of family photos all in the same frames. If you purchase some art, get one nice piece with colours that you love. Then select up to two colours from the art and find some scatter cushions for the lounge. This will really lift the room without costing a fortune. If you're on a budget, Shop at Freedom when there's sales - you'll be able to find some really good modern pieces that aren't overly expensive. Finally, Make sure the TV is not mounted too high - Have someone sit on the lounge and guide the person hanging it. Good luck and remember to keep it simple. :)...See MoreOld farmhouse needs design help
Comments (9)Hi asquithoatley, thanks for your suggestions regarding building up photos in my idea book (didn't know they existed!) I do have room to place it in front of the fireplace however as I wanted to mount a TV on it, thought it might be best to put some room between the couch and TV (I had read that putting a TV on a wall can cause neck aches by looking up, so I thought having it back would mean less likely to be looking up at the TV). I don't have any dimensions sorry, as I have only viewed the house once. We are taking a builder through next week so I can get dimensions then (we haven't put an offer in). Another query I had is, do you think it would be a good idea to shut off the door way to the kitchen from the hallway? I thought it would give me a full wall of cupboards (it is a large kitchen the way it currently is). I then had planned to see if I could remove the wall between the kitchen and the living room (try to give some open plan to the house). I also wanted to demolish the wall between the laundry and living room, turning the laundry into a dining room. The laundry would then get put into a cupboard on one of the walls (I will match it to the kitchen cupboards). I have a very large dining table (family heirloom) that seats 8. The current owners have split the living room into a dining and lounge, using a 4 seater table (not much room for much else). Any suggestions are appreciated!...See MoreSitting room
Comments (17)I think if the fire place was painted white it would blend in to much. I think you need to make the fire place stand out so as your eye is drawn down, not up above to the aircon. The aircon is not in an ideal position, but it can be perhaps less an issue if you eye is drawn down, not up. I would look for something interesting and eye catching to place in front on the hearth when not in use....See MoreLiving room inspiration
Comments (22)I agree...maybe buy or make a couple of big floor cushions which are great for the baby and toddler years, and work with the couch you have for now? you could use black and white ones and tie them into similar coloured throw cushions on the couch....See MoreAnna Auzins Interiors Ltd.
