You can paint the windows or If you're not changing the bricks just paint all trims etc the same as the windows, that would soften the look of your house. Add some new window treatment like White plantation shutters (Cream and white are great together) Re finish the driveway and some gardening will all add to the new house, congratulations. cheers

How did you go with colours? I have a similar problem!

Hi Cass, ah, the ubiquitous "Primrose", now called "Classic Cream"! I am in the same boat, house built in early 1990s, pretend Federation, lost of dark Indian Red or Brunswick Green trim. Time for a little face lift, but how to work with the YELLOW (Primrose) Colorbond aluminium windows and garage door? Any ideas anyone?

I often wonder how this house turned out. I am in the same boat.. but I have the added luxury of having powdercoat metal everywhere INSIDE the house (eg the landing and the staircase all have it, with glass inserts) Lucky, lucky me... I have no idea what white to use on my walls haha!

We have used Dulux Antique White USA for the trims and Dulux Hogsbristle Full strength for the walls.... we have the same Classic cream windows!!

How is it coming along, Cass? Have you attacked the outside yet? Love to know what colours you have used /will use externally.

We ended up spraying our outside windows surfmist and I weatherboarded the front of house And had it painted in Milton moon one and a half. If you look up 456 fairbank rd arawata vic domain sold you’ll see diff.

the Inside I just painted walls snowy mountain half everywhere except ceiling to tone bone windows down a bit.

Shaun Forbes the external colour is Taubmans China Biege. We don’t like cream at all so just tried to hide it without going completely cream!

Kate....the garage door is white. We wanted nothing else primrose at all! I attached a closer photo.

You’ve done a great job.

This shows the problem with using photos for colour, first photo the garage looked darker than walls. Regardless your braveness has paid off.

What white is the garage door? the external wall are china biege? what colour gray is the trim and driveway. all looks great btw

Kate.....sorry the first garage door photo was still with the old garage door on which was a faded classic cream door. The new one is a different profile and the colour is Dover White. So yes you are correct they do look different colours because they are.

Thanks there is a colour China white dulex . China beige on the colour swatch looks very beige but your house doesn’t. Did it look different in the tin?

It’s Taubmans not Dulux. Not beige at all. We got 3 sample pots from Bunnings and painted them on the outside wall to see what it was like at different times during the day

Cass, id like to know how often you'll need to repaint the brickwork? i'm at the start of our transforamtion journy and would love nothing more than to see the end of my primrose windows! would love some suugestions on how i can transform our house

You can’t really go better than the colours Cass choose if you’re after that look. Her house is one of the best examples I’ve seen of working with what you have.

Same problem with SOOO many window/door frames in primrose. Needing to update to a coastal vibe. Wondering if ‘Ironstone’ for brickwork. Previous owners also used ‘Paperbark’ for garage doors & trims. HELP!! + wondering if ‘paperbark’ on roof (currently green..heritage look similar to photo above. 🤔🤔🤔

DanMac86......it depends on where you live as to how often you would need to paint. I’m expecting maybe 7-8 years. To be honest we cheated so we didn’t have to paint the whole house. We virtually only painted the front of the hours and a couple of metres up the side. You would need to pick your point to stop like a gate. If we didn’t have water views I would have put white shutters on the windows. I just picked that outside colour to fade away the primrose. The other option is to just paint the external frames of the windows which most painters will do. This then gives you the wider options for an external colour. We just didn’t because it’s on the beach and saltwater etc. Good luck!

HU-167213853....post a photo. If you are after a coastal vibe you can’t go past white or lighter beige. Ironstone is quite dark and does throw blue. It’s ok on trims etc and then go lighter walls. Good luck! Cass :)

Hi Cass72… sorry for the confusion … I referred to danmac86 pic which looks very similar.. the pic of house here is a little hard to see with the ugly fence which also needs attention . Thanks for your input.. was wondering if ‘ironstone’ too dark for all the bricks. Love the colour but perhaps just the trims etc as you suggested. The house is in Queensland & a street back from the beach. I’ve been racking my brains as not keen to spray the metal as close to salt air. Your pics look gr8!
