Need professional helping - matching window frame

I need some help please!

We live regionally so can’t get a colour consultant out to Site.

Our window frames are a UVPC product, white in colour. I’m wanting to match the architraves around them.

I have taken a sample of the frame to a paint place where they used a colour matching machine, and have tried a few sample pots with no luck.

Can anyone suggest what to do? It’s not a big difference but I can see it, I want to get as close possible.

And which do you prefer, bottom half with cool grey or top half with Colorbond Dune?

Oklouise, do you think I should go for a different white and make it obvious it’s different? Make it a feature?

I’ll take a photo from further back but the house doesn’t have boards on yet and no verandah. Will look better once the verandah is on.

I would use a formal garden design to give the front of your home street appeal and make it more welcoming. With the white walls and grey window frame you could use pencil pine to help break up the the stark white walls.

I don't profess to be an expert in anything useful. I've two rugs on floor boards and one needs some non slip (avail from Bunnings) and one doesn't. It's quite cheap. I've also seen Martha Stewart add rows of silicon to the bottom of rugs to make them non slip but to me that ruins the rugs.

Please help - colour of window frames and other trims

White and cream can work together and it is a great idea to paint all your trim white to freshen and lighten your room. Whether your cream blinds look dirty if you paint the trim white will really depend on the cream tone/shade of your blinds and possibly the material they are made from. Remember the colours will look different of an evening under artificial lights than they do during the day under natural light. We have uPVC white window frames with classic cream architraves. I recently purchased some block out roller blinds and spent hours agonising over whether to match the windows or the trim so I understand your dilemma. I ended up matching the white of the windows because we wanted the blinds to 'disappear' when they are opened. Have attached a pic to show the white windows with classic cream trim fyi....

Verandah will wrap around from edge of cable right round to other side of house.

Gutter is Wallaby. Should have left it zinc but too late now.

Hi. Just to clarify, is your roof Zinc, Wallaby (like gutters), or a colour? I cannot tell from photo due to reflection of light. This info will help. If it's not Zinc, would you be able to post a pic when roof colour is more visible, maybe later in day?Thx.

I agree with oklouise about not trying to match the white window frames to architraves as more of a contrast looks better and deliberate as opposed to trying too hard and failing to match. Finding the white that you like will require a bit more looking. Pls continue to post pics of potential whites for architraves if you would like additional comments.

    Hi Annb1997,
Roof is zinc and gutter is Colorbond Wallaby. I thought it might be a bit too reflective.
    Thanks

    Overcast might help

Thanks Jodes, roof looks really good. What a beautiful rural setting too.

I was just looking at Dulux whites and greys and here are a few you might like to consider for sampling against your windows in combination with the two different cladding colours.

Lexicon might be interesting to see how it looks in combination with the grey cladding, Wallaby gutters and your Zinc roofing. BTW! What's name of grey colour for cladding?

I included this one below as it shows it with the Dune(s) - maybe they are from diff years.

love the Galvanised roof and think it could be interesting with the darker colour like Wallaby on the walls and try Corbond Surfmist as the "white" trim and then you have big areas of Galavanised and Wallaby with white windows and surfmist trim and you must consider a dark Orange? front door....

Dieskau is from their Grey colours, thought it might be interesting to consider as well.

    Also here are oklouise's colours:

I don't know reason for two Surfmist.

    Thankyou both.
I never would have thought choosing the house colour would be so difficult!!
I was so set on Grey and white but so many people are doing this combination now and some are pulling it off and others aren’t. I don’t want to be in the latter category!
It is a a great spot and once the garden and verandah are done with some fret work I hope it will look great!
The light grey is Haymes Charcoal Grey. I was thinking Abyss or black for the front door with black pots along the verandah.
I mentioned Wallaby to my partner as the house colour but he felt it might be too dark? Can always try a pot!

    Is this the Abyss?

    Yes

I need someone to come to Site and say ‘this will look great, use these colours!’ And do it all for me lol

whatever you choose will be gorgeous because it will be your home and you've already been brave enough and energy conscious enough to have the fabulous gal roof and a black door sound excellent but i forgot to suggest white for the fascia and barge will highlight the Wallaby gutters...btw you don't think i/we found it so easy to decide on our own colours....we've been using the same colour schemes on several different homes for many years and decided that if we like it that it must be good although it does look different each time!!

I love this combination but the white on the frames of the windows is mucking me up. Everything on Pinterest and Instagram show the frames the same colour.

I thought white would be easy, go with any combination agh!!

only because it's a photo and not a close up but if you can't find the right paint ask the builder to quote to make an architrave that extends over the window frame for the most obvious windows...try taking the masking tape off some of the window and see if that helps and contact the window manufacturers and ask if they can recommend a colour matched paint

Also, could be that the window frames are timber and so painted same colour. Good tip oklouise about the custom architrave.

No it isn't an easy process and there are so many choices and combinations. Trust yourself, often your first choices are the ones that work. I also like the idea of painting the door black. And nice green plants in black pots. :)

    Think we’re on the money!!

Not sure how the paint place will mix it up, we just added a couple of dollops of Colorbond Dune. I’m happy with how close it is. Just need to replicate on a big scale.

In real life it looks a closer match.

    excellent

Now to decide on the wall colour lol
I have upvc white windows and was difficult to match with interior walls (exterior was brick architrave) anyway think dulux white on white was match as has Grey tinge and upvc a greyish bright white but ended up going same colour as wall colour which is dulux white polar quarter and don’t notice anymore not exact match. Things we agonise over often don’t prove problematic:). Love wallaby colour by the way - goes nice with dune and great contrast is ironstone

And so pleased to see a “white roof”! Bravo

That’s awesome to hear girlguides. Thanks for the tip!!
We are in love with the Uvpc and quality of them. Would recommend to everyone.
You are right. I agonised over doing the gutter wallaby for so long. I do regret it, but we’ll make it work and in the end is not a big deal.
Our homemade mix is not perfect but I don’t think anyone will be walking around with a fine tooth comb checking colour match lol.
Getting it right on the inside will probably stress me out too!!

Our shed is Dune with Wallaby roller doors. I’m starting to think maybe Dune in half strength. Will get a sample pot and see how it comes up.
When we were building our extension we had planned on having Surfmist windows and frames to go with our Dune Colourbond cladding. Then we were given a huge 2.4x3.0m window in Shale Grey (couldn't resist) but it meant we had to rethink our colours. So we changed the frames around the window to Surfmist and we are really happy with the result as there is a grey tint to the Dune and Surfmist so it all goes. So maybe instead of trying to match the frame to he window maybe use a contract colour instead. Maybe if you use half strength for your walls you could use the full strength for the frame.

Or visa versa would be just as nice. Good luck with everything.

So glad the white for around the windows worked out! Best wishes!

Don't try and match the UPVC white, it'll probably annoy you forever. Go for a big contrast white.

Charcoal walls will look great. I see way too much light grey so much so that it gets very 'mission brown' after a while.....

We have an even better match now.

Took my sample of frame to another paint shop and they were brilliant! Kept working on the mix until it was right.

And even better the lady was an interior decorator and advisor and gave me some great advice on colour choosing.

Thinking of going quite a bit lighter for the walls and adding some pops of colour in verandah posts and/or fret work.

Feeling so much better about the choices now. The samples on the cards are all the colours I originally had, we’ve just pulled in Haymes Overcast as the overall colour rather than Charcoal Grey. Will use the Charcoal in the features.

Really excited to get weatherboards on and start painting!!

    It pays to shop around!!
