So many questions from my point of view. The furniture all looks a bit squashed. Is it correct that you want a circular kitchen island bench, or do you mean to place stools around an overhanging bench in the kitchen? The raised section near the dining table would have to be removed, or are you planning a new Kitchen? What is happening down the other end beyond the small mat? is this an entrance from a deck or back garden, or does the room venture further? If you are to change your sofas, make sure they are sympathetic with the new chairs and as the chairs look a plain creamy colour, should go with most fabrics or leathers. Due to the room not being over spacious, be careful not to select furniture on the larger scale. Have a look at Jardan furniture and Globe West, both these organisations have great furniture at not too exorbitant dollars. Arthur G steps up the ladder, made in Melbourne. I would prefer you started with the dining furniture, as this is quite cottagy moving forward with your new armchairs. The dresser too - although you could paint this an interesting colour so as not to apologise for it's heritage, again with the new chairs. Hope this assists, but a floor plan would help me.

you've already won our hearts as we love how you care about making things nice for the mrs...(first thing will be to learn to call her by her name not just your mrs) and that you've kept a special place for the dog...best advice is to ask her to help you choose how to make things nice for her...but also make sure that everything is super clean and shiny, add clean sheets and fresh towels, her choice of tea, coffee or whatever she drinks in the fridge and enough crockery and cutlery for two, flowers in the vase and welcome to your new life and being her mr, congratulations

Thank you for all the replies and suggestions. Although the kitchen, dining and the entry area at large would benefit from moving the bedroom door inside, I tend to agree that the privacy and function suffer more from a bedroom door within the lounge. I was suggested elsewhere to widen the lounge entrance and remove its door thus making the layout more open and "modern". I think this would not help, though, with the door positioning problem - either way. Bigreader, bedroom 2 = top room on the layout? It can be used as a spare bedroom but it is surrounded with shutters and large windows. I think It better suited for leisure or as a work space. Oklouise, thank you for the effort in redrawing the layout and experimenting with it. The suggestion for exchanging the hinges direction is spot on. The bathroom is not built yet. I am considering replacing the bath with a partly open shower:

Thank you everyone for your kind thoughts. @siriuskey the pantry door is just for illustration and we have not got to the interior design details yet (next stage). We saw a kitchen at Pure Interiors where the walk in pantry door was concealed in the joinery in the sense it all flowed well together. But I will keep your suggestion in mind when we get to that stage. @appalachianhiker thank you so much for sharing your thoughts and suggestions. The photos are definitely very helpful. I like the glazing at the end of the wardrobe. In the original design, we had the entire wall of the master bed adjacent to the void made of double glazed glass with a gap going all the way to the bathroom. I am yet to confirm the upper floor...
