You can get slim range hoods that generally fit into the wall cabinets ours were approx 40cm deep which housed the complete operation, our plumber ran a 6 or so inch flexable ducting into the roof cavity and out under the eaves. Most brands make these. Oh this project grows. I’m thinking the kitchen/laundry access is probably worthwhile (light, access, etc). I’m liking the more contemporary layouts, compared to the u version that I liked at an earlier date. Siriuskey your comments about that version being too wide were important. (I eventually remembered design issues with my mum’s last kitchen which was a u and too wide and while it felt spacious, it was a bit ‘not quite right’). oklouises’ wed 5.26pm (2nd option) is probably my preferred option at this stage. I think that would be functional and satisfies my wish list pretty well. Layout and furnishing the greater space is still on the go. I must say, I’ve found everyone’s input with this project so creative and helpful.

Thank you both for your feedback. Yes, these are the agents plans - just trying to get some general ideas. This is my first renovation and first time posting to the forum, sorry for lack of info. I've included the downstairs of the house (agent plans again sorry, but for context). The laundry has already been moved in towards the workshop area and a new bathroom in it's place. The landing of the stairs will open onto a new deck, and the utility area will be two small bedrooms. The house is on a sloping block with the entrance at road level, so want to keep the front door where it is (to the right of the kitchen). All internal walls upstairs are asbestos so we are having this all removed, which will give us the opportunity to install a beam if we were to remove walls and open the space. The space between bedroom 2 and the kitchen is currently unused space, where I think the previous owners may have used this corner of the house as an office and put in a wall before selling (to sell as a 2 bedroom house instead of 1 bed). I was hoping to get some preliminary ideas before we engage draftsman & engineer - we will be removing the existing deck on the back of the house as well as building a new two car carport on the front of the house.

You have a period home with wonderful warmth and character. Focus on lighting design, such as uplights and wall sconces to make the most of the drama of your soaring cathedral ceiling. They don't build them like this anymore, so don't try and disguise what makes your home special under a layer of plasterboard that you will see in any project builder's display village - they only use plasterboard as it is the cheapest way to cover the timber frame!
