Indoor/outdoor entertaining area

We have an old house, 80-90 years old. We are looking at adding a deck for better entertaining flow. We would like this to have an outdoor feel but to be protected so that we can use it all year. the deck will need to be big enough for a large dining table as well as some outdoor lounges. what would be the most price efficient way of doing this?

The most price efficient way may ruin the feel of the existing 80-90 year old house which would be a shame.

Better to build something sympathetic even if it costs more. A painted timber framed veranda and deck area would be my choice without seeing any pictures of the existing house and site.

This is a photo of where the deck would be built. we would get rid of the glasshouse.

It could have been a very bland but fit-for-purpose comfy zone. What you've done with the combination of materials, textures, colours and shapes is outright amazing! It doesn't incorporate too many details just for the sake of wanting to squish in every idea you ever had; every detail is really important. Love it.

I know you said that you don’t want to paint the brick but between the ceiling, brick and paving there is just so much brown hard surface which will work against your goal of a cosy feeling. Do you need to keep it fully roofed? I’d suggest some outdoor rugs, in a lighter colour, to define the seating and eating areas. Timber or wicker furniture def no glass or metal. And a lot of plants and greenery. To get comments of layout you need to post a sketch of the floor plan of the space with measurements.

depending on budget my first thought would be to have a new roof to match the house and help block views of the neighbouring buildings, keep the garden bed to add some life to all that brick and maybe screen off a separate area for a spa bath but difficult to be specific as we need plans showing dimensions of all existing areas and show also include the connection to the house, the upstairs verandah and nearest bath and/or powder room and the inside kitchen

it depends on what the space will be built out of, how big, do you want the floor at the same height as inside or at ground level, how do you want to use the space, your climate, the inside rooms and do you want to connect the two spaces with wide opening doors.. what about shelter for wind and rain and bugs..do you want a roof and walls?? a simple pergola covered with shade cloth at ground level with some pavers could be the cheapest DIY option for a few thousand for materials and time and effort...anything more elaborate will be more expensive
