Cladding advice for my exterior update

Currently old painted pebbledash render and red brick. Thinking of cladding over render ( still leave bricks exposed as they currently are) or re-render with a smooth modern finish.. thoughts?

Frint yard is in in middle of revamp (picket fence, hedge and sunken peer tree) as is house (back part conplete redo with

addition of living area, laundry, bathroom and two bedrooms).

Suggestions??

I'd just repaint existing pebble dash, facias, etc. Do some research on original colour schemes for the era the house was built in. They were more daring than us!

Anything else will make it look like every other house. We have too many same old same old dwellings that are now starting to look the same, same colour, same rendered finish, etc.

Don't forget to post some pictures of front yard, etc once complete!

I agree withMB design

However I have had some experience with the pebbledash & it does hold a lot of dust, which turns into mud during rainy weather Also spider webs & consequent dust

Perhaps smooth render will give you the effect that goes with this vintage of building, without the trouble of the textured wall

The grey on the western wall looks dark and purplish on my monitor. It may come over as too imposing and monolithic on the southern face. If you're sticking with the grey palette then a warmer tone would suit the sandstone better. Does Dulux have a colour palette recommendation that includes your Berkshire White plus a grey? Check online or in store pamphlets. But, for such a big, expensive, and impactful paint job I would actually be tempted to get a colour consultant. You're not just repainting a loungeroom wall if it doesn't work!

Just a thought - Have you tested the existing cladding for asbestos prior to removing? Some of my coastal clients also feel the need to 'fill' the corrugations at the ends prior to capping or butting up to end frames: to dissuade small creatures from also moving in to a nice new home. Colorbond Surfmist will look great and horizontal will help to balance your homes height, however, it also gives ridges where dust and dirt sits and so needs to be hosed down more often - probably a good idea as it removes some of the salt as well. Good luck with the reno, the Architects image looks great.

Hi Brett How brave are you? The bricks look OK - leave them 'cause once you start fiddling with bricks, complications can occur. It is possible to paint aluminium window frames if they are well cleaned before starting the painting. Make them black. The eaves then should be white, with all guttering and bargeboards black - this will blend with the roof. Here is the brave bit - paint the timber tangerine!! (Porters 'Thunderbird'; Resene 'Clementine Orange' ) Make the front door the same colour. ((can you live without the screen door?) Add a large door handle for drama. Too much? Try Dulux 'Grotto Green' or 'Mangrove Leaf', both dark, khaki green/grey colours. Fill the front garden with lots more tropical plants to make an oasis. Include such plants as Bird of Paradise, which have orange flowers, to tie it all together. Have fun. Love to see what you come up with.

Maybe paint facials white and put some white cladding in front gable so eye drawn to that not windows not a blue tinged white eg not dulux lexicon but warm white to go with cream blinds eg natural or polar white or grand piano 1/4 strength would also go nicely with woodland Grey and jasper - cb basalt also goes nice with woodland Grey maybe go 1/2 strength on walls as it’s a nice neutral black/Greywhixh would detract from purple tinge

It looks pretty cool as it is... I would probably consider some detail works such as thicken up and make a feature of the columns (eg stone plinth on bottom third), lighten up the driveway/path eg exposed aggregate concrete particularly as the entry disappears into the path from a colour perspective and change the door..

The shutters are one style and the door another.

The shutters are a bit like the Cape cod style in the US which have quite chunky columns... and the doors are solid usually

I love your house, I would just get a new letterbox and some landscaping. I also really love the number six on the front - somcool and retro

It's ultimately personal, and as always a matter of priorities/tastes, but for maximum impact/value adding for minimum spend I'd consider just a painting update to the facade (accept/work with finishes at they exist & embrace the existing style) and agree with some of the other comments re the landscaping - consider the landscaping solution and elements as just as at least important as the building and they need to balance/compliment each other appropriately. Money into changing cladding for the sake of it arguably is not as well spent as investment in developing properly defined/structured/focused elements for the front yard and making it a space and an asset to your property.....good luck :)
