Re purposing the space making it work harder. Lovely windows. Pot drawers work so much better. Fresh and bright. We replaced our pine doors to alabaster shaker style cabinetry with matching walls and ceiling. Rebuilt pantry with sliding door with sensor light and an island bench with drawers each side. Worth the investment of bespoke cabinetry.

Here are three things I have learned about decorating a young girl’s room: 1. You don’t need to end up with a sickly-sweet cloud of fairy floss pink. While your little Miss may answer ‘pink’ when asked her favourite colour, I have found that less is more. Bring in a few more colours and even out the pink by considering the ratios between, let’s say three, different colours in the room (taking into consideration soft furnishings, such as bed covers and window coverings and the wall colours). 2. Go for height. Children’s rooms are often small and the vertical space is often overlooked. Apart from adding art to the walls, consider floating shelves to display books and other decorations, such as a canopy or garland over the bed. 3. Don’t repeat the mistake of selecting all bright colours. This primary purpose of this room is for sleep, so tone those colours down with something a little more restful. I’ve often found there are plenty of bright colours to be found in kid’s toys and these don’t need to be emphasised with your decor choices.

Just thought I would add a couple of rough ideas without drawing the floor plans, happy to do if any of this is interesting to you 1) Close in the upstairs rumpus from the passage way with full height sliding pocket doors,, and turn the top of the staircase into this space as this would cure a lot of traveling noise problems, also stairs would be safer into the now study. Add two skylights into existing passageway, extend dining across the passageway Make the current study the 15yr olds bedroom, he's soon to be 18yrs and will appreciate being near the front door away from the girls etc. 2) is slightly different Your lovely sideboard will fit into both dining spaces cheers

It’s difficult to be certain but it looks like the bulkhead near the microwave is probably a beam supporting what was once the original exterior wall of the house. To lift it up will be quite expensive. The arch also looks like it was originally the edge of an extension, with the sunroom added later. Impossible to know from pictures what the structure is underneath the arch, you’ll need to talk to a builder. Or if you’re happy with DIY and mess, peel the plaster off and have a look. There isn’t a budget solution to what you’re trying to achieve. I’d be aiming for removal of the arch and then slope the ceiling from the microwave bullhead to the exterior wall above the window. The sloped ceiling will give you a sense of cohesion without changing either roof line. Once you start trying to alter an extension built on an extension built on an older house you start finding problems and issues that will eat into your budget.
