I always found having plenty of options when it come's to lighting works best. Create good bright lighting you can use when your busy in the area eg cooking or reading. Then have the option to have just a couple of dull lights for when your just walking through an area, having a quiet moment or sneaking into the kitchen to make a late night coffee, or a glass of water. I like having choices, it only mean having a couple more discrete lights in the right position and a couple more switches on the wall. (Cable and switches are cheap) These days we are spoilt for choice when it comes to lights, think about how you live and what you are going to do in the area.

If you are using LEDs always choose warm white for domestic interiors.

There are typically more temperatures of 'white' than just warm or cool. We use a neutral daylight LED (which is between the warm and cool LED shades) across the house. I would actually look at a few things, first, do you have other lighting sources? This comes into play if you have a central pendant light or floor lamps in the middle of LED downlights. It can really throw off an effect you may wish to create if they have two temperatures. We have a central pendant that is warm, and the downlights are neutral. I only ever use one set of lights at a time so it isn't a big deal. The pendant creates a warm welcome feeling and I use it for dinner parties and rich warm and spicy foods. The downlights I use for serving fish and Japanese foods, things that are about the presentation and the content, where a light that is more central or blue gives the food a clean fresh look. Restaurants will often design their lighting schemes around the style of food they serve. Secondarily, what shade is the wall and your furnishings? Warm whites look better with rich historical or industrial looks, jewel and brown tones. Cool whites look better with grays, blues and modern clean lines. Mid range daylight and similar temperature lights are good compromises.

Getting a quote on the Grande Statuario. I think it’s going to be significantly dearer than our first quote ☹️ The crispness of the White is perfect with great veining. Second quote being done with main island in the Statuario and with Smartstone along benches under window and into pantry, in case the first is too dear. Took our Lexicon 1/4 and overhead samples with us. Really happy with the choices. I just hope the first quote isn’t too dear as I’d prefer all white but I’d be happy with the combination of both tops.
