Restore the facade. Don't render as you'll loose the fabulous brickwork. Just re-point it. Do maintenance on the roof as needed. I'd pressure clean then see what it comes up like. If it's still a bit ordinary then paint it. I would do a bit of investigating on other original colour schemes before choosing charcoal, even though I admit the charcoal does look really good! By the way we render as we don't want to pay brickies to really use their craft so we buy cheap bricks and render. Render does look fine when used as a feature rather than a whole facade. Don't compete with neighbours make your house more desirable by keeping its character. I would however consider spending some good money on the landscaping. There are some superb gardens on these wonderful homes around the inner suburbs of Melbourne for example and would work great with yours.

I had a colour consultant come out and help. Taking into account leafy surrounds and colour of homes next door, this was the outcome - it came together really well: All exterior walls - Resene Double Truffle Roof, Gutters / Gargae door - Colorbond Wallaby Front door - Resene Ironsand Window & Frames - Colorbond Surfmist Fascia - Colorbond Surfmist We have a lot of red soil where we live so couldn't possibly go with a white exterior or I'd be forever cleaning the stain off lower walls. I'm looking at the picture , and I'm trying to work everything out . What stage are you at ? Which walls will be red brick ? Are any colourbond , or is that just the roof ? Just in that picture , I can't imagine the red brick suited anywhere there . The left of the garage door , and that splitter wall , would look okay in the brick , but I'm gathering it would be both cheaper and also better suited to do both of those in a fibrocement board , maybe rendered and painted ? The door is just plain boring -- Maybe , just maybe , that wall to the left in the brick would be okay , but it would be difficult to tie it in . Do the flashest door you can afford , but personally I'd like a wider doorway , with glass down 1 side or similar . Likewise , I'd do a matching garage door . The other thing though is around the window -- I'd do that in a shiplap board -- personally I prefer real painted timber rather than anything fake -- there's places you can save costs , but even a whole house is less than 420k different in price -- that bit around the window shouldn't be $1000 different ! Maybe that gets a discussion going . . . . . . .
