Love the white windows. We've nearly finished a major renovation of a 1950s Queenslander-esque house, and we agonised over the colour scheme. We found ourselves driving around the suburbs snapping photos of colour schemes we liked, and then analysed what it was we liked about each. We especially liked the look of white windows with medium coloured walls, and then a darker trim. We're thrilled with our final choices, which were Zincalume roof (shiny silver in colour), chamferboards in Dune (Colorbond colour - mid beige with a hint of grey), which really made our white windows pop. Gutters, hand rails and timber battens around base of house in Deep Ocean (Colorbond colour), a dark blue. Garage door and front door are white. Greys would also look great, a mid colour for your chamferboards, and darker for the gutters, lower half of the house and trim. Whatever colour scheme you settle on, I would especially focus on replacing or disguising the white wall material around the lower half of the house. A darker colour is more traditional, as are battens. Even painting the existing white walls will make a big difference. In the photo I've added, rendered fence and garage door surround are still to be painted Dune, white picket fence panels to be added. Due to a sloping block, battens around stumps are only visible from the sides and back of house. Click on the photo to see more of the roof/ paint scheme. ensimpson, Please do not render that brick. It is quite a nice brick and render can look very cheap and often done poorly cracks and looks even worse. If you don't like the dutch cables, you can go about removing them. These are not primary roof structure typically, but there will be a little work in making good the roof where they were. Alternatively, give these gables a function, place a fixed louvre, like you have shown in the attached image and allow the roof to vent through them. This will also impact the comfort of the home as there will be less heat buildup in the roof cavity. I agree with the comment above, the driveway is very prominent. This is partly the perspective of this image, but you could consider options for the driveway paving. I do not think painting grey is a good one. Repaving with a natural grey material could be as there would be more life and texture to it, but it is an expensive one.

Running cladding in opposite directions gives a contemporary look. Many examples I've seen seem to vary the profile width each. ie. narrow verticals juxtaposed with broader horizontals. You could clad base in a recycled plastic timber-look product or composite timber cladding. (Colour stable and no maintenance). Stone could look fab too. Painting it the Farrier would definitely be simplest. You could do a contrast with the verandah floor and its edge.

we've used rendered thick foam for one extension which looks great but the rendered painted surface is difficult to remove messages from low flying birds and can't hold standard screws and love the look of Colorbond steel (installed vertically doesn't hold so much dust) but our latest favourite is well insulated painted modern fibro with rounded timber cover strips over the joins and we love it ...has a nostalgic feeling reminiscent of grandma's fibro cottage and is cheap, quick and easy to install
