New kitchen after water damage
Comments (12)Under sink drawers are a wonderful use of space, giving you easy access to what always gets pushed to the back & forgotten or can't be found. Drawers for plates etc. I find overhead cupboards hard to access what is at the back be it glasses or cups or foodstuff, so having these too deep is not practical. Pull out vertical shelves for your jars & packets. I like the idea of under cupboard & kick-board lighting. Have you considered a dust vent that you can sweep all your crumbs etc into? They are similar to ducted vacuum units & fitted at floor level under a cupboard. Also incorporate storage for all your appliances to hide them away. If you go with a glass splash-back, make sure it is clear glass as some is green tinged can ruin your intended effect. Enjoy your new kitchen....See MoreKitchen headache — advice?
Comments (40)I am not sure about the idea that your kitchen needs to look like it is in a display home at all times with nothing to indicate that you use it regularly. I love cooking and still manage to put used dishes straight into the dishwasher and keep the benches relatively clear. Any open plan kitchen layout will have the same issue ie you will still see dishes on the sink no matter where you place it in the kitchen. Stay focussed on the function, walking from one side of the kitchen between the sink and cooktop is not efficient nor safe. Next time you are preparing a meal imagine you are doing it in your new kitchen layout as this will test whether it functions properly for you. Definitely keep your larder/pantry you won't regret it. More than 3-4 stools at the island can be over rated, most people prefer to sit around a table as a family rather than line up at the bench looking at the sink and stove. It sounds like you have always been on the right track, just try not to over think it....See MoreKitchen design advice needed
Comments (26)I think the fridge is in a great spot - you need it to be near the walkway so people can grab something from the fridge, without invading your space. I totally agree with keeping the services out of the island bench. I would allow 800mm between the stove and sink as you are always jumping between the two when cooking and it will minimise the amount of water getting spilt on the floor. You should make sure the dishwasher is on the far side of the sink to avoid clashing between any one stacking/unpacking dishwasher and someone cooking. If you put the sink in the pantry with all you dishes it can be really inconvenient for a family that is trying to interact with the kids. I like a pantry for storage and running a mixmaster to muffle noise in the living space. If you can place the dishwasher on the bench behind the pantry that will help. Allow 1200 mm between the bench and the opposite bench/cupboard....See MoreQueensland kitchen renovation - before and after
