Pivot Front Door

We are Looking to replace our front door and sidelight with a wider pivot door.
Can anyone please advise the pros & cons of a timber versus an aluminium one?
Most of our windows and existing doors are timber with the exception of aluminium sliding stacker doors leading to an entertaining deck off the kitchen meals area.

The two doors I am considering are the
Statesman aluminium pivot & Corinthian sunburst.

Any advice re recommendations would be most grateful.

Depending on your location you may need to confirm the BAL rating of your door, and also think if you will be using a security/flyscreen with it. The appeal of pivot doors is often lost with a hinged steel security door, but these are essential if you ever want to benefit from cross-flow ventilation on hot summer nights, or to improve your BAL rating if needed.

I would be looking at the threshold to help with your decision. What is the material that you step over when coming through the door? How will it wear? Will it keep out drafts? How does it feel underfoot? Avoid anything that looks cheap as it is a really important element to the entry to your home. Don't pick the door from a brochure or the internet, visit the manufacturer's showroom and see how the threshold and how smoothly the mechanical side of the pivot door works.

You can use what basically looks like contact paper (i.e. the stuff used to cover books in primary school) to make clear glass windows look frosted. Something like this from Bunnings: http://www.bunnings.com.au/handi-home-900mm-2m-plain-frosted-decorative-window-film_p3960052 However, you may want to talk to your builder first as they may be able to replace the glass in the front door for a decent price.

While both are great options we agree with Tribbletrouble44152k7 Trek - definitely depends on your space. We personally like swing or pivot doors - easier to clean, space efficient and easy to assemble if you are doing it DIY. Alternatively you could use a glass screen and do away with the door all together if that's possible? An example is below of our DIY shower screens, which you can also pick up with door kits: Hope this helps! Let us know what you decide.

Seeing as though it appears you have 900mm depth internal depth you could consider setting the more simple/cheaper folding doors in as far as possible (not in line with the passage, but say 200/250mm in from it) just so the washing machine fits. If you then sort out the leaf break-up to be minimal (300-350mm ish) you may be able to then have the doors sitting back against the wall either each side or at one end without projecting out too far in the passage space.....sometimes I set up kitchen mixing centre doors like this to avoid the exact issue...remember if you go the the pocket door options you take width out of the space and when it's relatively tight like yours the extra 100/150mm may be better used for benchspace/storage....options options! All three doors are good, just depends on what they are opening into/onto- hinged doors can give a bigger opening with no stepover, sliders are great if sill is level with the floor but can be quite hard to keep clean (the sills) and pivot doors can give a great size opening but take up quite a lot of space swinging open- so it comes down to personal preference as per every decision in building/renovating
