Our existing house has dark plum/aubergine carpet in the open plan living and dining room - an inspired choice by the previous owners during a large internal renovation in the 90s. (Exterior is pale green weatherboard, colorbond pale eucalyptus roof). We are adding a 23sqm family room on the northern side, which will connect with the plum carpet at a standard size doorway. We have agreed to tile this floor, with a budget of $55/sqm. The exterior colour scheme for the extension is colorbond surf mist (ground floor, living room) and graphite stained timber (stairs, first floor, bedroom, ensuite, robe). There will be a lot of direct sunlight in the new living room. The outlook is a high (possibly sandstone veneer) retaining wall in the backyard.

What colour/style tile for the floor? Charcoal? Olive? Red/copper? Warm neutral? Brown? Timber look?
