What color window frames for our contemporary country home?
Comments (11)@Rachael It's a dilemma, isn't it?! Our house in the bush has ended up with anodised window frames and galvanised iron cladding (i.e. silver that will dull to grey) with a Monument roof. The view is huge and I think the black window frames - while I love them would have looked too urban and have framed the view too much, if that's possible. The view is so big we wanted to look 'through' the windows and their frames. Also, as I said above, dusty exterior window ledges would have driven us nuts. However, if I were in an urban setting, I would have gone for black windows and the dark roof if my views were more intimate. Good luck with the decision making ......See MoreKitchen Design Dilemma Hampton/Country Style to suit house
Comments (6)You have a complex set of requirements that won't be adequately addressed in an online forum of opinions. In addition the photo of the style of kitchen that you like is in a much larger space than you have available, and the size of that kitchen contributes to its presence. Without borrowing some space from adjacent rooms for a wider, larger kitchen then I would consider a G-plan with the end of the G being bench height seating with half the stools with their backs to the view, and the other half with their backs to the kitchen, as in this photo. I would engage a design professional to visit, take your brief, measure up and come back to you with a few concepts for the layout. Think hard about how important the symmetry is to your kitchen as it can really hamper creative solutions that are outside the box. It is still possible to have a Hamptons style kitchen, that has presence and is of a formal nature that is asymmetrical. The rest of your home is not symmetrical, and forcing a symmetrical design into a pre-existing space only ends in compromises to the functionality. A good design professional (not necessarily a kitchen designer) will look outside the three walls that are constraining your thinking and options to create an elegant solution, but you will need to pay for this creative service. Comments (15)Since your home is a cottage, I feel mirrored is a bit modern but encaustic tiles would be gorgeous, something subtle would be lovely, maybe like this https://tilehaus.co.nz/products/austinmer-grey-encaustic-look-tile?variant=40293687460040&currency=NZD&utm_medium=product_sync&utm_source=google&utm_content=sag_organic&utm_campaign=sag_organic&utm_term=&utm_campaign=gs-2021-03-24&utm_source=google&utm_medium=smart_campaign&hsa_acc=2523824507&hsa_cam=12611051513&hsa_grp=122872652867&hsa_ad=509293891322&hsa_src=u&hsa_tgt=pla-293946777986&hsa_kw=&hsa_mt=&hsa_net=adwords&hsa_ver=3&gclid=CjwKCAjwh5qLBhALEiwAioodsyZ9Y4FT2OEtSdHfzucjzV59JkZ-Gj3npqr9Q3HQv3GHcgOpw4orjhoCf7MQAvD_BwE Granted I do just have the colour swatch not a brush out or test pot, but to me Whisper White is looking very cream and I'm not seeing any green undertone Are you sure this is what you are looking for? Perhaps try Lyttelton Quarter.. or even better, choose your tile first and select the paint to work with the tile :)...See More- 5 years ago
