Hi Brett about 5 to 10 years ago the trend was if your design style was contemporary your trim colour was the same as the walls and if your design style was classic your trim was a lighter, often white contrast to the wall colour. These days the trend is to the latter regardless of your design style as your builder's designers suggested. However matching your trim colour to the walls is still a good option if you have 8' ceilings. As there is minimal difference (only in the level of sheen) between the skirting boards and wall colour it makes the ceiling look higher. Another option is to do the trim in a similar but lighter tone such as Dulux Grey Pebble quarter. This is a very subtle tone on tone look. Whatever the colour, do you have a choice in the sheen level for your trim? I generally recommend semi gloss enamel on trim unless you are after a more classic look and your woodwork is in very good condition (the higher the sheen level the more any imperfections show up), in which case you could consider full gloss enamel. At the end of the day it's your home so you should do what you'd prefer - after all it's only paint so it's easily changed! All the best with your build.

thanks, it is helpful, what you say. Unfortunately it is one of the houses that has a "front" and a utility - down-to-earth back. Unfortunately the Hog's Bristle is a colour that changes like mad in different light. Those shades are not available in the timber/faux-timber 5mm slat. But I am ordering samples now of the lighter, whiter versions to see how it may pan out. the flooring is not there yet..... I will wait a little longer to see how that goes... (Commercial vinyl Pegulan "black" and floor boards)

Try dulux snowy mountains. Just hope you plan to bring some colour and textured elements into space. With the tiled light floor, the effect might a bit cold.

Hi I need help I have decided on a white kitchen valley style with laundry at one end pantry at other end colour is laminex linen white in painted finish My question house walll colour is dulux natural white Trim was going to be vivid but feel the trim needs now to blend with the kitchen cupboards I thought of putting opaque glass doors either side for laundry and pantry so there will be minimal area to possibly not blend I bought sample pot if half natural white How do you think this will go? Or with the glass now it’s not a worry THANKYOU fir anyone’s advice it’s getting hard Os I have two velux skylights above Island bench kind regards Kathy 🌈
