? Would you like full height SHOJI doors on all doors. As CAVITY doors
Comments (2)yes I would have loved them in our last house (late 50s contemporary), they would be perfect - but there is only two of us in the house so no-one to be 'private' from and no damaging pets. The new house is Federation with 15" thick stone walls so I don't think they'd suit....See MoreDesigners/creative folk..Please help with..ideas for bathroom reno....
Comments (18)Your mockup scheme is similar to our master bathroom we just completed - photo below. I know you mentioned storage being a concern - our mirrored cabinet has offered an amazing amount of storage in a very small space and also helps bounce light around. I was worried about black taps etc too so we kept chrome fixtures but added in a matte black candle and black potted orchid to create a similar effect which we can change out later on. Our floor tiles are dark but because they are semi-polished they actually bounce around a lot of light and don't make the room feel dark if that is a concern. We also have a huge fiddle leaf fig in the corner (not pictured) which adds a really nice feel to the space - a plant like that could help bring in the outside greenery in your bathroom. Instead of the storage tower you have to the left of the vanity could you do say some floating wood shelving, possibly with baskets added for more hidden storage? You could also bring in the 60s theme with what you displayed on there eg. photos as you mentioned? In regards to the window - a previous house we lived in had a window at about shoulder height in the shower - as well as letting in heaps of light it was amazing for storing toiletries etc!...See Morewhat height windows and doors for a 3 meter ceiling?
Comments (5)You should also consider thermal efficiency and your views. Even double-glazed windows transmit heat. Your house doesn't seem to have many eaves. If you have the taller windows on your side facing walls will it mean you just get a better view of the neighbours roof and your side fence? Will they get a better view into your side facing windows? Don't just consider how it looks from the inside, but think about the whole house from the outside as well - including views, privacy, and extra heat gain in summer, and heat loss in winter, plus all of those extra window furnishings. If you are getting custom made window furnishings then there will be extra cost in materials and labour. If you are buying standard off the-shelf window coverings then there is much less range available at 2700mm heights for full length windows. Comments (38)You could consider custom joinery that actually looks freestanding - purposefully creating a gap from the edge of the fireplace surround to the wardrobe & on the wall side also. This would also mean that it really does not matter if the front of the cupboards do not align with the front of the fireplace. Adding a nicely detailed leg, and a feature handle (you can get some really unique Australian made ones these days) to give some visual interest to the otherwise minimal finishes. Keep it simple & classic so it ages with your child's taste and preferences. As an example, The Design Files recent article has an image of a cupboard in a lounge area, that could be adapted to two double door units on either side of the fireplace https://thedesignfiles.net/2019/10/interiors-house-p-cjh-studio/. Seems perfect for a child of any age, or even if you want to convert the room to a more 'grown up purpose' once they leave home ;-)...See Moresiriuskey
