Exterior color scheme for our 1940's weatherboard terracotta tiled roof house in Australia
Comments (17)Is there part of the house we can't see? Where is your front door? Just the double frontage like that is plain, but that was the style and not much you can do about it. The homes you are looking at do have a lot of features with opportunities to bring in other colours but there is nowhere with yours to do that and if you try it usually cheapens it. If you take the triple fronted house you posted, I would do the lighter green on the weatherboard and the deeper green like they have used on the window frames, I would do for the baseboards and the front door. I would keep the window frames and eaves white and paint the guttering to match the roof. Are you country? Are here any water issues for the garden? Instead of trying to do something with the house, I think I would be inclined to give it all a cottagy look with a picket front fence, nice entrance, a lush lawn and lots of plants for colour and lushness. The dark green baseboard will be a nice background for some small shrubs in front of the house. Weatherboards really lend themselves to that look. Don't forget the addition of old tyre swans - lol I notice you have small awnings over the windows - maybe replace them with some striped canvas ones in greens and terracotta - if you can get the combination. Comments (5)With such a large house I think it would need some other darker colour along with white to help "ground" the look. Also, as mentioned above, pure white on an exterior looks very glarey - surfmist would be perfect. I would strongly suggest getting a colour consultant to help with such a large project - and get some mock-ups done with different colour ideas....See MoreHelp with weatherboard home colour choices
Comments (0)Hi everyone, we're renovating our home and adding an extension at the back. As part of the extension our draftsman asked us to consider the colour scheme for the front of the house so it would continue through to the extended part of the house.Colour scheme atm is very yellow (not cream) and red (metal roof) with green trims. Whilst it's cute for what it is, we're trying to achieve more of a modern look to match the modern extension out back.Draftsman suggested more of a off white beige on walls and maybe a aluminium or colorbond grey for the roof.I don't mind the off white/beige but afraid this might not be modern enough? We don't need the house to pop, just trying to achieve a more modern and timeless result. Whatever colour we choose for the roof, assuming it's in good nick, is it possible to paint over instead of changing the whole roof sheets? Assuming painting is cheaper......See MoreEdwardian weatherboard colour.
Comments (1)Hi Lizzy, Currently Grey's and white are "flavor of the month" and have been for a while. Colours can certainly date your home. Perhaps the services of a Colour Consultant who can take a photo of your home and show you a couple of schemes. Imaging the opposite. A dark grey, charcoal and white trims. Certainly makes a statement. I do like the attached link for inspiration. https://www.houzz.com.au/magazine/5-fabulous-fail-safe-exterior-colour-palettes-stsetivw-vs~92335358 Hope this helps.
