Your mockup scheme is similar to our master bathroom we just completed - photo below. I know you mentioned storage being a concern - our mirrored cabinet has offered an amazing amount of storage in a very small space and also helps bounce light around. I was worried about black taps etc too so we kept chrome fixtures but added in a matte black candle and black potted orchid to create a similar effect which we can change out later on. Our floor tiles are dark but because they are semi-polished they actually bounce around a lot of light and don't make the room feel dark if that is a concern. We also have a huge fiddle leaf fig in the corner (not pictured) which adds a really nice feel to the space - a plant like that could help bring in the outside greenery in your bathroom. Instead of the storage tower you have to the left of the vanity could you do say some floating wood shelving, possibly with baskets added for more hidden storage? You could also bring in the 60s theme with what you displayed on there eg. photos as you mentioned? In regards to the window - a previous house we lived in had a window at about shoulder height in the shower - as well as letting in heaps of light it was amazing for storing toiletries etc!

Hi Sofia I definitely think brick lay would work better on the walls in the bathroom purely because you have a 30x30 on the floor and a 30x60 on the wall. You will find the tiles could look out of place trying to stack them. It would be a different matter if they did not share 1 or more dimension. You could hang your mirror so it covered about 1/4 of the "floor tile" and 3/4 of the white above the centre of the sink. Alternatively, tiling the entire back wall with the "floor tiles". The first option may make the bathroom feel smaller if the shower takes up more than 1/3 of the back wall. ok, here's my go: keep kitchen in current location. fill in wall between living and dining room. remove wall between kitchen and living, replace with steel beams and columns. the living room becomes the new dining room, with access straight from the kitchen. Possible skylight above the new dining room. Remove doors from kitchen or replace with sliders (if cavity available). The back bedroom can become a study. Now for the expensive bit: new building on the back (choose a style, keep the calif bungalow or go modern), all insulated double glazed etc..new living area, 2 beds, maybe an ensuite if necessary. the front bedroom could become the master with it's ready made ensuite. Link the new and old with a light filled living area. An architect will do wonders here, and will probably save u $$ on a poorly designed/constructed build anyway. I wouldn't go up with this house, sensible extensions and renos only.

Painted floor tiles will great for a short time, but as soon as you start cleaning them you will have problems. While there are tile paints available they are generally used for vertical tiles surfaces and not floor tiles which are subject to high mechanical abrasion (with grit and shoes). As soon as the paint starts wearing and paint lifting (especially in traffic areas) they will look like the cheap and nasty fix that they are, and it won't fool the buyers. Possibly an assortment of large matching floor rugs will visually link the spaces and hide most of the tiles. You could use edged carpet to make rugs, but the important thing is consistency throughout. If you are on a budget you may be able to sell them after the property is sold.
