Love all the wonderful comments above. The only thing I would add is: really consider what you want to use this room for... What do you want the room to do? Welcoming guests? If it is welcoming, then think about what makes you feel welcomed when you walk in - that ahhhh feeling.....maybe plants (a bonsai project would work well in that light), some family photos instead of a mirror, coat hanger behind door, buffet table (where you stand your G&T chrystal set on a nice sliver tray). Or is it a Staging ground for getting out the door? Then perhaps the mirror, some sort of rack for bags & hats etc, a bench for sitting and putting on shoes, cork board for reminders etc (it is possible to have these all behind a thin closet so closed doors hide any clutter). Whatever you choose, I just find it helpful to keep the rooms purpose in mind.

Hi amaliar, still a bit hard to work out even with the plan and your pictures, but I would reverse the areas, make the current sitting area, near the fireplace, the dining room and make the dining room the sitting area. In the dining room run the table across and exactly centred in front of the fireplace, not the skinny end of the table in front. This would give the dining table the slightly elevated display look which would look lovely when your table is fully set, with candles and or flowers. You could back the L shaped lounge up against and along the outside wall which adjoins the deck, I would have the L section slightly extend across the other room which would be actually behind the lounge/couch, this room on the plan is at the end of the deck, this would allow you to put one or two leather chairs and a small sidetable or lamp table to create a seperate reading area in that back area, it would also allow you to place a tall lamp behind and/or a standard cantilevered lamp over the L shaped lounge, which would look nice (example photos below). By running the lounge this way it would not have it's back to the dining room, it would make the entertaining space open so that some guests could utilise some of the dining chairs by turning them around and face other guests who may be sitting on the lounge, with a lovely big rich rug in front of the lounge/couch. It would also allow good flow for walking through the rooms, would make the rooms look larger and not cut off. Good luck.

After much consideration of your photo, I really think you have it right! The gold mirror matches the gold towel rail ! All your other elements, i.e. the plant and stand, match perfectly with and enhance the room's overall look. I think the suggestion of painting the wall behind the mirror, is an excellent one, in a shade of green which would tie in with the tiles on the floor and the plant. You have the ceiling height to handle it. I wouldn't be shy with a dark emerald green to complement the tiles, I think the gold would then really shine and blend with the gold hand rail. Photocopy the pic of the room and using a texta, colour in the wall and see what you think before committing. Be brave. Congrats on a beautiful room! House: I clean pretty much use bicarb, vinegar, rubbing alcohol, lemons, essential oils and washing up liquid to clean everything. We recycle the usual glass bottles, plastic containers etc in our recycle binand all our lighting is energy efficient bulbs. We use cross ventilation and use an outdoor umbrella to keep the sun off the western windows in summer and a gas heater in winter (closing off areas we dont need to heat) for winter. I'm also a huge fan of wheat bags for keeping warm. Outdoor Areas: Our front balcony is totally food oriented and our back is partially food - mainly herbs. We use a couple of (awful) plastic owls to stop the possums and rats from visiting and feasting on our plants. I recycle our coffee grounds and egg shells (ground up) onto our garden as well (the citrus love them). I also use vinegar on slugs (they all come out with the rain so I go out with a spray bottle of white vinegar and spray them - it keeps them under control - making sure that I dont spray the plants). I use vinegar on weeds too - it kills them off. Rubbish: we put our fruit/veg scraps and egg cartons/empty toilet rolls into our worm compost as well as our garden waste. The compost from the worms goes onto our gardens. All our paper, glass and plastic gets recycled fortnightly.
