White works to blend them in a small or minimal space with 8' high ceilings. Depending on your décor brushed silver lights look good as well. Think what you want the viewers attention to go to, lights or artwork, furniture etc.

Keeping your colour temperature consistent makes the light flow from one room to another, however I do agree with the others above to create a more relaxed and ambient feel you would need to use warm white. However, if you have fallen in love with 4000k then stick to that! You don't need to keep your floor lamps and table lamps consistent with 4000k as you may want to opt for a lower colour temperature for these to create a more intimate setting. When buying LED downlights be sure to consider the price against what you are getting, new units should be complete with frame, globe and driver attached with a flex and plug these are easy for installation and usually come with a min, 2 year warranty. Don't forget it's also a great idea to separate your lights into different circuits if you feel that turning on all the lights will be too intense. This allows you complete control over the amount of light output by turning on different switches, plus with dimmers you will master the perfect lighting for every occasion. My last point would be to test the downlight out before purchasing all the lights for your home, if you are still hesitant about what colour you want to go for purchase 1 unit to test out - most are attached to flex and plug so you can just plug it into a powerpoint to test. Personally , I think it depends on the colours in the rest of your house . If it is colourful , then carry that through -- if it is predominately red and yellow , then use that for your pendent lights ( and towels and liquid soap dispenser ) , same if it is predominately blue or green or brown or purple -- well , maybe cut down on the purple haha . I'm not a fan of monochromatic , but if thats your theme , then go with the black pendents , but carry it through with a glass fronted 50's inspired Black and White picture ( and yellow or orange or red towels ? ) .
