I prefer distressed timber and metal but most true blue industrial units were too large for my space. The one I finally bought is a bit of a mix with distressed timber and metal, but also white and clean... and it matches everything beautifully!

I am also in the build stage and originally, I was having a fish tank that was then to become the focal point of the lounge, hence all the furniture was to face the tank. Now, the tank has been scraped and I have, with the help of a dear friend, completely done a 360* with the furniture and was able to decide to hang the tv from the opposite wall. My point is, if your plan is in it's infancy, in other words not set in concrete, on the drawing board still, then my advice is, CHANGE something, so that the room becomes more balanced!! No time like now to visualize the space and keep drawing just that room until you have enough windows, doors etc... to satisfy your needs and you will probably solve the problem fairly quickly. How about a beautiful timber option? The below are Blackheart Sassafras but Black Butt, Spotted Gum.... Lots of choice and each one individual. Then choose some box frames and place randomly on the wall? DIY the interiors if you have the craft gene, with one colour included in each box to promote coordination. Make them personal or quirky or humorous and change them about as the mood takes.

Hi We had the same decisions but in a new build We went with a floating hearth and mantlepiece between the 2, as I think they add to the fireplace feel, even if it is gas. I wanted non symmetrical so an art work or ceramic will go on the other side (not shown in pics) it doesn’t have the cupboard The hearth is the same tiles as the outside paving The other way for ours would be to have made the plaster to resemble an old fashioned chimney great & painted that. They issue we have is the fireplace has been supplied without a part so not yet complete Best wishes for your decisions
