Daniel, can imagine you don't deal with a lot of fire places in QLD but South of that we do. It's like any beautiful old building we need to respect and conserve what is already there, a new addition can allow for more sleek and modern design. I had been very fortunate to own a beautiful federation house which was simply white inside with polished floor boards, fire places mostly timber, when we sold the new owners striped all beautiful arch ways and all exterior Fret work. I have recently seen an Architect show his work on this forum where the Bull Nose verandah's and metal posts were removed "they weren't original", even though they would have been a 100 yrs, and were replaced with more modern square posts. Look at what is happening on the North Shore Pacific Highway, the past government (Labor) has approved multi story apartment blocks along this highway destroying beautiful heritage houses and gardens to do this and losing any historic charm a big lose for Sydney and Australia , and while not doing anything to update ANY transport to support .this Conserve what we have as is done in other countries for future generations cheers

Hi Claire, our fridge is exactly 912 wide too - maybe the one you like is from the same range? Mine is an LG 4 door (712 litre). Anyway, I can tell you that this fridge has to have a minimum clearance each side of 20mm, so overall minimum space is 952, so your space of 930 would not be sufficient, and that's not addressing the need to open the door yet. I worked out it needs 400mm on each side to open the doors fully (a lot I know!). This could be a continuation of bench space or open space, but not a wall. We are about to renovate, and as oklouise can attest to, had many a design dilemma in trying to find a good position for the fridge! (I ended up adding 800mm to the extension!) French door fridges are very appealing, but I think you would find that appeal fades very quickly with the annoyance of trying to get at the fruit/veg drawer on that side. In practical terms, a single fridge door that opens away from the wall would make life easier.

There are so many variables it is impossible to give an estimate. Depending on under-floor access for new plumbing, the amount of new cabinetwork, the demolition of the old internal laundry walls, the making good of the old laundry floor to match the kitchen, the amount and quality of the tiles in the new laundry, how many new powerpoints that need to be chased into your brickwork, and the availability of local tradesmen to work on a small project I can safely say that the cost will be in the five figures. Whether this cost is closer to $10,000, or $99,000 will depend on all of those unknown factors. You need to think a bit more about what you need, what you are prepared to spend money on, and contact a local builder for a more realistic understanding of the potential costs.
